In Casebook, the term 'Removal Location' refers to the location a child is at when he/she is in a placement away from home.
There are five types of removal locations:
Children are sometimes placed with non-custodial parents as the initial placement, either because the FCM decides that it is a good setting, or because the court orders it; however, if any subsequent removal location were with a parent or non-custodial parent, it would be considered (according to federal regulations/definitions) a Trial Home Visit (THV).
A placement with a relative and non-relative provider are done in the same way. The way a worker indicates the placement is with a relative is by selecting the appropriate relationship between the child and provider in the placement flow. You can read more about how to do that here.
