Setting Involvement Types
Casebook also gives workers the ability to prep a case by entering what involvement type a child is or becoming. The Update Status button under the photo icon allows the worker to Update Status of the Involvement, View Status History or View the Person profile of the child.
When a worker selects Update Status he/she will be taken to "Add a New Involvement Status" edit page to set the involvement status of the focus child.
A worker can set the date of a current involvement or set the pending/becoming status. A current involvement type indicates the child’s current and active involvement type as legally designated to the child by the court. A becoming/pending involvement type will be selected if you are working with the family towards this involvement type for the child. This will help inform supervisors and other workers of a child's situation and workers' caseloads while paperwork and court dates are in progress.
If there is more than one focus child involved in a case the "Add a New Involvement Status" will have a list of the children and ask if you would like to change their involvement status. If they meet the requirements you can change them.
As you can see in the example below we are setting a current status for this child:
When we submit we get a validation that ask the worker to confirm.
Once confirmed the new information appears on the case page on the Involvement Status card
The "Pending/Becoming" status is disabled when the Involvement Status is closed for a child. If a user who has access to cases with closed involvements) edits a historical involvement status, "Pending/Becoming" is no longer available.
The drop-down menu for the Involvement Status contain:
Informal Adjustment (IA)

In Casebook, the focus child's current involvement type and the date the involvement type became active displays beneath their name on the focus child card on the Case Overview page.
A user can also view the history of a child's involvement type by clicking on the Update Status drop down button and selecting View Status History.
Clicking View Status History will take you to a edit page where you can see the current involvement type, the past involvement type. In addition if you would like to put in a Historical Involvement type you can do so from this page.
Clicking the Gray Historical Status box will allow you to put old involvement types in the application.
Admins or Super Admins now have the ability to add a "Closed" historical involvement status. The Admin or Super Admin will access an open case and go to the "View Status History" page to view current and historical involvement statuses for a child on a case. When a user tries to edit or add a Historical Status the "Closed" option will be available for selection (this option is grayed out for all other users).
This historic information is also stored on the History page.
Select Involvement Types from the History menu
A list of all previous and current involvement types by child displays. No involvement types in the 'becoming' state will be listed on the History Page.
Users are no longer allowed to end-date an involvement type prior to an open removal episode. This validation helps to prevent errors in data entry, and provide an accurate account of the focus child’s involvement and removal dates.
If you attempt to close a focus child’s involvement and the date is prior to the end of the removal episode, an error message is displayed notifying you of the error.
This error message is displayed for all focus children within the case whose involvement closure conflicts with the removal episode end date. For example, if there are 3 focus children within a case and 1 does not violate the validation (no removal or no conflict in dates), the error message only appears for those children whose removal episodes conflict with their respective involvement dates.
In the screenshot below, Bart and Maggie’s removal episodes ended 9-18-15 which is prior to the removal episode end date:
Note: If the involvement is set to ‘Becoming’ status, this validation will not be triggered, due to the ‘Becoming’ status not requiring a specific start date.
To add or delete focus children the user goes to the Action button and selects "Add or Delete Focus Child
The user is taken to an edit page where he/she can add or delete a child.
Note:
An error displays if the user attempts to delete:
A child with an Open Involvement
the only Focus Child on the Case
