Tasar Silkworm
Tasar Silkworm
Hello friends welcome to Zoology Museum Shri Shivaji Science college, Nagpur. I’m the Tasar silkworm, Antheraea mylitta. I produce wild silk, known as tasar silk. I live on forest trees like oak and ber. My silk is coarser and stronger than that of the mulberry silkworm. I’m native to India and a few other countries. I go through a four-stage life cycle like other moths. My cocoon is harvested for silk production. I contribute to local economies in rural areas. My silk is prized for its natural brown color. I’m an important insect for sustainable sericulture. Thank you visit again.
