Notopterus
Notopterus
Hello Friends, Welcome To Zoology Museum, Shri Shivaji Science College Nagpur. I am Notopterus, commonly known as the featherback fish, a species of freshwater fish found in slow-moving rivers, lakes, and ponds across South and Southeast Asia. I have a distinct elongated, compressed body with a long, feather-like dorsal fin that runs almost the entire length of my body. My color is typically silvery or grayish, which helps me blend into the murky waters where I live. I am a nocturnal predator, feeding on smaller fish, crustaceans, and insects. My sharp, upward-pointing mouth allows me to catch prey efficiently. I am known for my ability to swim both forwards and backwards, thanks to the undulating motion of my long fin. I reproduce by laying eggs, and I am known to guard my nest aggressively. Due to my adaptability, I can survive in low-oxygen environments, making me a hardy species. However, I am sensitive to water quality and prefer cleaner, well-oxygenated waters. Thank you visit again.
