Dear Leawood Families,
As we jump into the month of March, I am delighted to share some exciting updates and upcoming events with our wonderful school community.
Raise Craze: Spreading Kindness, Making a Difference
Today, we launched our BIG fundraiser, Raise Craze. This fundraiser is focused on Acts of Kindness (AOK), and to help with that, after-school students and families drew positive messages on our sidewalks. We hope to reach our goal of $15,000, which will go to literacy resources, technology, and staff appreciation.
Read Across America Week: March 2nd- 6th
Get ready to embark on a literary adventure as we celebrate Read Across America Week. We have planned a week filled with fun activities to foster a love for reading among our students. On Monday, our theme was dress like your favorite character from a book. We also wrapped up the day off with a Kona Ice truck! Proceeds from this will go directly to the library.
Here are some interesting facts about reading:
Reading for 6 minutes a day can reduce stress by 68%
If you read for 20 minutes a day, you will read 1,800,000 words a year!
Report Cards Distribution
On Friday, your child will be bringing home their report card for the current grading period. I have personally reviewed each and every report card, and I will say that I am impressed with the amount of growth that our students are making! I am incredibly proud of the dedication and hard work demonstrated by our students, and I am excited to see their continued success throughout the rest of the school year.
CMAS Testing Reminder:
A friendly reminder that CMAS testing for grades 3rd-5th will commence on April 7th. Testing will be from April 7th to April 16th. Since 5th graders have to take a science portion as well, their testing schedule is slightly different. Please try to avoid appointments or pulling your children on these mornings to help alleviate the number of make-up exams. Let's support our students as they showcase their knowledge and skills on the CMAS exams.
Countdown to Spring Break: Two Weeks to Go!
With just three more weeks until Spring Break, let's make the most of our time together in the classroom. As we approach the break, I encourage students to stay focused, engaged, and motivated in their learning endeavors. Remember, every day is an opportunity for growth and discovery!
As always, thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child's education. Together, we can create a nurturing and enriching learning environment where every child can thrive.
“If we all do one random act of kindness daily, we just might set the world in the right direction.“
