From the Principal

January 2019

Dear Leawood Families,

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! I WISH ALL OUR LEAWOOD FAMILIES A NEW YEAR FILLED WITH HOPE AND PROMISE!!

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break and has had a good start to the New Year! Thank you parents and volunteers for assisting with class winter parties. The parties were a huge hit and students really enjoyed themselves. Thanks to Brianna Gillmore and Sheila Snyder and all our PTSA volunteers who sponsored two amazing community events in December: the Holiday Workshop and the Barnes and Noble Night.  Your time and generosity is truly appreciated.

Here at school we are ready to make 2019 a year filled with success through hard work and dedication by providing students with daily opportunities to flourish. The hard work is the responsibility of us all – teachers, students, staff, and families. I know together we will continue to make learning an exciting venture!!  Our mid-year testing scores prove that our intentional planning and focused instruction is making a huge difference to our student success!  PTSA and Accountability members will soon be meeting alongside staff members to begin the process of prioritizing Leawood budget needs. With the transition of our 6th graders to middle school next year, we imagine there will be some impacts to our staffing and AMP pairings.  I will share more as we are informed.

In looking ahead to 2nd semester, we want to ask our families to be mindful of re-establishing the necessary routines to ensure that your students are in attendance and on-time each morning to get each school day off to a great start. In addition to morning routines, we also ask our families to continue to be mindful of early dismissal habits as well. Although there are times when an occasional early dismissal is necessary for an appointment or urgent family need, early dismissals should be minimal as this loss of instructional time can certainly affect a student’s performance. As always, we appreciate your support as our teachers and students strive to maximize their instructional time shared each day.

Registration for next year’s PreSchool and Kindergarten is right around the corner. Please find more information in this newsletter as well as on our website at www.leawoodlions.us.

We have a very busy month ahead of us at Leawood! Right around the corner are some important events. I look forward to seeing you at these and others during 2018.
