BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL SAFETY
Please follow all our safety rules before and after school:
Students are not allowed on campus before 8:55 when the soft start bell rings. We've had many students still arriving at 8:45, which was the time last year. There is no one on crosswalk or supervising duty before 8:55.
Day Care vans only along Jay Drive. No parking or standing. If you need to walk your student to the door, you must park safely in appropriate areas.
The crossing guard on Jay and Leawood only cross in the east-west crosswalk. Students walking along the south side of Leawood Drive must walk all the way to the stoplight in front of school to cross.
When dropping off or picking up students along Jay Drive, do not wave them into traffic to cross. They must walk up to the stop sign and be safely crossed east - west by the crossing guard on duty. Please do not make U turns for the safety of our students.
When dropping off in the hug and go lane along the east parking lot, please have your student ready to exit the car quickly and safely without needing to spend a lot of time gathering their bags etc. Keeping this lane moving quickly helps keep it safer for everyone.
There is NO Parking in the hug and go lane. If you need to exit your car, you need to park in a slot and use the crosswalk.
Please do not park in a slot and then wave your student across the hug and go lanes. All students exiting the 3rd, 4th and 5th doors need to cross to the parking lot using the crosswalk by the preschool doors.
There is no crosswalk at the entrance and exit of the east parking lot. Students walking must walk all the way around using the parking lot sidewalk. Especially in the winter when they pile snow removal on those rocks, visibility is dangerously poor for cars turning out of the parking lot onto Leawood Drive
OCTOBER COUNT DAY
Each year Jeffco Public Schools must provide the State of Colorado an official count of how many students are enrolled in our schools. Please Mark October 1st on your calendar! The most important action you can take to support school funding is to make sure your student attends school that day. Much of public education funding from the State of Colorado is based on student count, and the official student count day this year is October 1st.
The “count window” the state observes is September 24th – October 8th, and the key student count day is Thursday, October 1st. Please help us ensure all our students are accurately counted by having your student in class that day! If your child must be absent on October 1st due to serious illness, please call our attendance line, 303-982-7813 to report the absence. Attendance during the “count window” will help counteract an absence on October 1st, but it’s best to come to school that day. Thank you for your support of Leawood!
REMINDERS ABOUT ATTENDANCE AND TARDIES
Attendance Line: 303-982-7813
Please be sure you are calling the attendance line whenever your student will be out. Emailing the teacher as well is fine, but they don't always check it before Leah in the office pulls the line. If you haven't called in, you will always receive a call to confirm your student's whereabouts. We will keep calling everyone on your emergency list until we confirm. Preschool needs to use this line as well.
Tardies
School starts at 9:05am for grades K-5 and full day Preschool. Classroom and hallway entry doors will close at 9:05 am. After that time, students will need to enter through the main front entrance. Students are marked tardy if they arrive after 9:05.
AM Preschool starts at 8:45, students will be marked tardy after 8:45.
PM Preschool starts at 12:45, students will be marked tardy after 12:45.
Early Dismissal
If you are picking your child up early, please call the office in advance at 303-982-7860.

Chromebook Cases to Purchase
Available for 1st - 4th Graders
If you are interested in purchasing an 11.6 inch laptop sleeve for your students Chromebook, please email Mrs. Russell at margarita.russell@jeffco.k12.co.us. She will add a fee of $10.50 to your students account. As soon as the fee is paid, she will deliver the case to your student in his/her classroom. This is a great way to protect the device from accidental water bottle spills, drops, and other damage that may occur while transporting devices back and forth between home and school. (5th grade 1:1 Chromebooks and iPads already have cases)
Alternatively, please feel free to purchase a sleeve similar to this one for your student’s device directly from your favorite retailer!
Headphones available from our School Store
If you would like to purchase new headphones for your student, please contact Mrs. Russell at margarita.russell@jeffco.k12.co.us or 303-982-7860. She will add the $10.00 fee to your student and you can pay it online or over the phone. She will deliver the headphones to your students, once the fee is paid.
Jefferson county Health Department guidelines for Covid require that we send home students with any symptoms of illness.
Best Practice would be keeping your child home if they have a headache, a stomach ache, having trouble breathing, sick to their stomach, stomach pain, fever, diarrhea, sore throat, cough, or a runny nose of any kind so we can keep our friends free from illness. Even if you think it is allergies, if the symptoms are not controlled with allergy medicine keep them home.
If your child is feeling sick, please don't medicate them and send them to school.
When a student requires a pick up from the Health Room, Jeffco School Policy expects that the students will be picked up in 15 minutes and under. We understand parents have jobs and lots going on and that it might be hard to make that 15 minute and under deadline. We do however, kindly ask that you to adhere to this policy. To help facilitate this, it is a good idea to have a large support group built up to support each other, enlist neighbors, friends, and family. You need at least two emergency people on Campus, more is better.
Thank you
