FROM THE PRINCIPAL

May 2021

Dear Leawood Families,

Happy May and Happy Mother’s Day to all the Leawood moms! I hope you enjoy your special day and all the beauty and love that we see in your children at school. Thank you for sharing them with us!  This is a very busy time of the year and it will go by quickly, so please help your child or children stay focused on learning for the remainder of the school year. It’s hard to believe the end is just around the corner.

This year has been so rewarding, filled with lots of new learning and community commitments. We continue to work on meeting the needs of all students, addressing safety issues, and increasing our parent involvement and communication.  I applaud the strong partnerships we’ve developed and I personally thank the entire community of Leawood Elementary.

Our students, staff, teachers, and the incredible group of volunteers here at Leawood make this school so special. We are very proud of the experiences and life lessons that we bring to each and every child that walks through our doors. I am continually amazed at the devotion and dedication that our loyal adults, both staff and parents, bring to the students on a daily basis. I’m especially thankful for our Accountability and PTSA.  We’ve done amazing work this year around budget, data and school improvement, while still planning and enjoying the many community and family events and fundraisers that make Leawood so unique.  We thank our PTSA for another successful year.

Even though the year is drawing to a close, it’s important that our students stay focused on learning until the very last day.  Our teachers are working hard to plan fun activities, while keeping the learning central that happens each and every day.  Thank you for your continued dedication to our partnership of learning. Truly, it is hard to believe the end-of-year activities are beginning, and that there is less than a month of school left! Thank you for your continue support of Leawood.

Fondly,

Mrs. Shehan

PARENT LEARNING NIGHT

In an effort to increase participation at our monthly PTSA meetings, we've decided to shorten them so they are quick updates of what we're currently doing and need help with.  The rest of the time will be a short presentation of an important issue that affects all of us. We'll call this a "Parent Learning" night, just as we have "Teacher Learning" days.  Please join us this month for our first parent learning night.  You will hear from our teachers...

KEEP 'EM LEARNING ALL SUMMER

Wednesday, May 19th, 6:30pm

Please join us for a parent information night where our teachers and staff will share ideas, day trips, museums, activities and websites that we suggest to keep your students engaged in summer learning.

Hope to see you there!
