MARCH From Our Teachers

Leawood Elementary School

Fifth Graders go to AmeriTowne

On February 11th, our fifth graders conducted a day of business in Cherry Creek to cap off our economics unit.  They had been preparing for this for over 5 weeks.  We had Mayor Ava, and Judge Emily taking care of Towne Hall.  Some of the businesses that made a profit were the Investment Cafe, the Radio Station, the Warehouse and the Utility shop.

From P.E.

We are now nearing the end of our Gymnastics and Rope session. We have many students who have made great strides in both class time and after school Gymnastics. We have a total of 142 participants in our after school program.

Due to COVID we are a little behind because we missed last year and had a late start this year, and I am just happy to be able to have it back. We will have 2 presentations during the school day for all students and staff to enjoy our little gymnasts' skills on floor and vault.

Our little gymnasts just amaze me with their work and new achievements.

Thank you,

F.T. Gonzales/Leawood P.E.

Spring Book Fair

Thank you to the many families who visited our spring book fair.  It was nice to see so many children excited about reading!  We had a great turnout, and will be able to purchase many new books for our library with the proceeds.

From 5th Grade

Please send in your pop tops to your student’s class, as there is a contest again this year.  All pop tops are donated to The Ronald McDonald House in Denver to continue their great work of helping children and families.

Keep up the great work.

From Student Leadership

This month student leaders have been hard at work organizing and promoting a Book Drive. While that occurred, they participated in many leadership games to help build communication skills by both listening and directing their fellow leaders. We are so proud of their hard work this year so far, with many fun activities still to do.

SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING

Throughout this school year, students have been learning about emotions, calming self, problem-solving, and being kind.  They are learning how to see how others are feeling in order to support them.  We have practiced our skills through role play, discussion, reading, and writing.  Students continue to grow in building emotion management, self-awareness, and awareness of others’ feelings through our Second Step Program.

4th Grade News
