Dear Leawood Elementary Community,
I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to all of you for making our Leawood 5K Run such a wonderful success! Whether you joined us by running, volunteering your time, or donating funds, your support made this event possible and truly brought our community together.
A very special thank you goes to Amber Martin, whose dedication and leadership in organizing this event were extraordinary. Amber began planning last school year, and her hard work and attention to detail were evident in every part of the event. Also, I wanted to thank our wonderful PTSA and our PTSA Board: Amanda Garvey and Kelly Osborn, who were critical in the assistance of planning and support during the event. We are so grateful for their commitment to our school and students.
After taking several pies to the face, I may need a long break from ever eating or even smelling whipped cream. Thank you also to Kate Wheeler, Coach Mulready, Ashley Bole, Ryan Boogert, Emma Langowski, and Jeffrey Koehler for also being willing to sacrifice your "face" to this cause!
Thank you again for your generosity, energy, and spirit. Events like this highlight what makes Leawood such a special place.
If you are interested in helping the PTSA with any of our events, I ask you to join us tomorrow for our PTSA Meeting in the Library from 6:00-7:00 pm. If you cannot attend in person, please feel to do so virtually using this link: https://meet.google.com/pks-fhys-gyt
Application Free and Reduced Lunch and School Fees
While breakfast and lunch are still available for free for all students, a ballot in November will determine if this continues. In the meantime, please take the time to fill out a Student Benefits Application. Once you click on "Apply for School Meals," it will open a document that will provide the guidelines on whether you are eligible to have your fees waived. Completing this form is one of the ways to be considered eligible for other potential benefits the district may offer, such as school fees. Additionally, for schools that have students qualify, we receive additional funding, which is always needed and appreciated!
Sincerely,
Kevin Kolasa
Principal, Leawood Elementary
We are so excited to have our Watch Dog Dad and Marvelous Mom program back. All crosswalk Watch Dog Dads & Marvelous Moms need to be trained. If you are interested in being a Leawood Crossing Guard, Jefferson County requires you to take the crosswalk training and test before you can report for duty. View here the training presentation and then take the test here: Link to test You must score at least an 80% to be qualified, so please inquire your score before signing up. You can review the presentation and take the test as many times as you'd like.
Remember to arrive around 7:20 in order to get your vest and walkie talkie for crosswalk duty, and be in your assigned crosswalk by 7:30 or in the afternoon by 2:25 to be at your spot by 2:30. Your student(s) may not be in the crosswalk with you. Have them wait on the grass in front of the school.
All crossing guards are also required to sign a Workers Comp Waiver as well. Please leave with the office staff. Thank you!
