FROM THE PRINCIPAL
February 2024
Dear Leawood Families,
On Wednesday of this week, our school was honored to host students from Columbine High School for a special Wish Week Assembly. I am continually impressed with how these young people stand out as articulate and compassionate individuals, who are willing to step up as models in our community. They did a wonderful job facilitating the assembly and I know many of our students were enthralled by them. The purpose of the assembly was to raise awareness regarding the Wish Week events that are taking place from 2/5-2/9 and to continue to build that sense of community among our Columbine schools. We want to raise as much money as we can for Leyton Rogers, a former Leawood student. Please help to participate in any way you can!
Parking Lot Safety:
As you probably have noticed we have created some new procedures to make pick-up and drop-off more efficient and safe. With that in mind, please remember these essential parking lot safety tips:
Follow Designated Drop-Off/Pick-Up Zones: Use only designated areas for drop-off and pick-up. When dropping off, please pull up as far as you can to where the cones curve.
Students should be ready to exit the car promptly and should exit the vehicle on the sidewalk
Observe Speed Limits: Drive cautiously in the parking lot and adhere to posted speed limits.
Mind Pedestrian Crossings: Exercise extra caution in areas where pedestrians may be present, especially during arrival and dismissal times. It is recommended when walking towards the school from the east, you walk around the parking lot rather than continuing on the sidewalk across the entrance and exit. The reason is that there is a lot of sun glare for the drivers making a left into the parking lot as they are facing east.
Park only in lined spaces and park in handicap if you have the necessary placard
Cell Phone Etiquette: Refrain from using your cell phone while driving and maintain focus and awareness.
Stay Patient: During busy times, like drop-off and pick-up, patience is key. Allow extra time to navigate the parking lot safely.
Thank you for your cooperation in maintaining a secure environment for everyone.
Upcoming Events:
Parent-Teacher Conferences: Our Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for 2/21 and 2/22. This is an excellent opportunity to discuss your child's progress and address any questions or concerns you may have. Here is the link to sign-up: Spring Conferences
Valentine's Day Celebration: Join us as we celebrate Valentine's Day on February 14th from 7:45-8:30 a.m. with classroom parties. There will also be a Valentine’s Family Night on Thursday, 2/15 from 5-7 p.m. There will be music, crafts, and pizza. Looking forward to celebrating with you!
Your Proud Principal,
Kevin Kolasa
