FROM THE PRINCIPAL
March 2024
Dear Leawood Families,
As we step into the month of March, I am delighted to share some exciting updates and upcoming events with our wonderful school community.
Read Across America Week: March 1st - 8th
Get ready to embark on a literary adventure as we celebrate Read Across America Week next week! We have planned a week filled with fun activities to foster a love for reading among our students. Today we launched into this celebration with a special visit from Cat in the Hat (really it was just me in an awkward costume). At dismissal, any interested student could get a “truffula tree” (cotton candy). Thank you so much Amber Martin for making truffula trees all day so that each student could have one.
Here are some interesting facts about reading:
Reading for 6 minutes a day can reduce stress by 68%
If you read for 20 minutes a day you will read 1,800,000 words a year!
Raise Craze: Spreading Kindness, Making a Difference
We are thrilled to announce that we will be participating in Raise Craze, a unique fundraiser focused on spreading kindness and making a positive impact in our community. Look out for more information in your child's Friday Folder about how you can get involved and support this meaningful initiative and fundraiser.
Report Cards Distribution
Today, your child will be bringing home their report card for the current grading period. I have reviewed personally reviewed each and every report card and I will say that I am impressed with the amount of growth that our students are making! I am incredibly proud of the dedication and hard work demonstrated by our students, and I am excited to see their continued success.
CMAS Testing Reminder: April 2nd-April 11th for Grades 3-5
A friendly reminder that CMAS testing for grades 3rd-5th will commence on April 2nd. Testing for the 3rd-4th grade will be April 2nd-April 4th and April 8th-April 11th. Since 5th graders have to take a science portion as well their testing schedule is slightly different. They will start the first week the same way as the 3rd and 4th graders, 4/2-4/4, but then the second week test 4/8-4/12, and then Tuesday, 4/16. Please try to avoid appointments or polling your children on these mornings to help alleviate the amount of make-up exams we would have to do. Let's support our students as they showcase their knowledge and skills on the CMAS exams.
Countdown to Spring Break: Two Weeks to Go!
With just two more weeks until Spring Break, let's make the most of our time together in the classroom. As we approach the break, I encourage students to stay focused, engaged, and motivated in their learning endeavors. Remember, every day is an opportunity for growth and discovery!
As always, thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child's education. Together, we can create a nurturing and enriching learning environment where every child can thrive.
“If we all do one random act of kindness daily, we just might set the world in the right direction.“
