From the Principal

Leawood Families,

Thank you so much for attending your scheduled parent/teacher conference time.  Teachers work hard to ensure that conferences provide you with valuable insight into your child’s progress at school.  The team effort to make a positive impact on student learning is essential. Together, we will make it happen!  Home-school collaboration is so critical for student success. It is always our goal to have 100%, of our parents attend, but we know sometimes things just come up.  We encourage you to try to reschedule a time, even if it’s just a phone conference.

This year we tried a new format, allowing parents more input in what will be discussed during those quick 20 minutes.  We sent the data home ahead of time with the videos to watch so you didn't have to spend time going over that during conferences if that was your preference.  Please complete this short survey to give us feedback on how to continue to make our conferences better for families.

Fall P/T Conference Feedback

Thanks to PTSA, our party parents, and other volunteers who made our Halloween celebration a huge success.  Although it was different this year, the kids were still thrilled to be in costume and enjoy the fun. There were so many creative costumes! Look for an email with a video of the parade and party fun coming soon.

Thanks in advance to Amber Martin, and her volunteers working on the Canvas and Cupcakes and Cookies Too! Instead of our usually Holiday Craft Workshop, this year we'll be doing a fun, guided, art for the whole family.  For more information, check out the "From the PTSA & Accountability" page linked at the bottom of this page.

This month we have a lot to look forward to. Our 12th annual Veterans Day Celebration will be held on Wednesday, November 11th.  Unfortunately, again we will not be able to have a celebration assembly in the gym. We will be recording lots of special things to share with you and your family. We'll still be making cards for our veterans and will have them outside for you to pick up and share.

Our next Accountability meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 10th from 6:00-8:00pm via Google Meet, and PTSA this month is Wednesday, November 17th from 6:30-8:00pm on Zoom as well. Look for more information on the PTSA & Accountability Page linked below.

Remember our Thanksgiving break is Nov 22 - 26.

Jeffco Action Center Toy Drive

Leawood is participating in a toy drive to support the Jeffco Action Center.  Our Student Leadership will be outside collecting NEW toys that are UNWRAPPED.  The last day to donate is Friday, November 19.  Please see this flyer for more information: Holiday Toy Drive

Student, Family, and Community Supports

We hear more and more from parents requesting support with social-emotional and behavioral issues with their children.  We are thankful at Leawood to have 2 social workers, Mrs Jennifer Magri and Miss Chloe Shaw.  They have created this amazing website to support our families.  Check it out below:

We have so many things to be thankful for as the Thanksgiving holidays approach. Leawood is a great place because of the families and staff who continue to generously care for and willingly give so much of themselves to us!  I am continually reminded of all the blessings for which I am grateful. These include: the students, who come to school prepared to do their best each day; the parents, who make those home sacrifices that prepare our students for learning; the teachers, who dedicate time and energy to excellent instruction and to the creation of a positive learning environment; the staff, who handle all those small details that keep the school running smoothly for students and teachers; and the greater Leawood community that continues to support the needs of our children.  May you find time to reflect on all you are thankful for and make time to spend with those you love.

Thanks for all you do for our community of learners!! Leawood is an exciting place to Discover, Inspire, and Grow... Together!

Fondly,

Mrs. Shehan
