Preschool Changes for Next Year

We are pleased to announce an exciting change in our preschool next year.  Our superintendent, Dr Jason Glass, has a vision of all Jeffco elementary schools becoming PreK-5 buildings.  While at Leawood we've always included preschool in our programming, assemblies, PTSA events etc, next year we will be taking the next step.  Our site will no longer have a preschool director, and Mrs Shehan will now oversee preschool as well. We are so excited for this change and believe it will allow for more consistency in resources, support, and communication.  

One change we've already made will be that the half day preschool program times are more aligned with the rest of the school.  The AM preschool will now be 8:45-11:45 and the PM will be 12:45-3:45.  This will mean that all preschool parents will need to PARK in the parking lot and walk their students inside for drop off and pick up.  You will no longer be able to park in the hug and go lane.

Another change will be that our calendars will be more aligned.  When you see modified testing days: school by appointment only on the calendar, preschool will also have testing on those days and will sign up to come to meet with their teacher for one on one assessments. When the rest of the building has Friday teacher learning days, the preschool will also not have school so that the preschool teachers will join in on the professional development with the other K-5 teachers.  We will also have preschool do their parent/teacher conferences on the same evenings that the rest of the school holds conferences in October and February. Please check the calendar for all these days so you can begin planning. 

And finally, another HUGE change is that we now have licensed teachers in preschool.  We interviewed for these positions and hired Michelle Hetterscheidt as the half day preschool teacher and Lara Coffey as the full day preschool teacher. Lara comes to us from Bear Creek K-8 where she was a Kindergarten teacher.  Each teacher will have a partner teacher support staff.  Lori Whittington will remain in the full day preschool with Lara, and we have hired Dannielle “Danni” Rosenthal to work with Michelle in the half day program.  Danni comes to us with many years of experience at Kendallvue preschool.
