READ-A-THON

What a fun time we have had with the Read-a-Thon this year!!  The kids were so excited to do the activities each day, and loved reading to raise funds for our school.

So far, we have made over $15,000!

THANK YOU for all of your support in this fundraiser!!!

Donations, that will count towards prizes, can be made until 12 pm on Friday, October 4th.

Fundraisers are only a success because of the support of families. We are so incredibly lucky to have such an amazing community that comes together to support our school.

THE LIBRARY IS GOING TO BE BEAUTIFUL!!!

Don't forget that even though we do not have another big fundraiser until the Spring, you can still support our school by using Scrip, Amazon smile, and Pop Tops.

For questions or to volunteer to help with any of the fundraising, please contact Melissa Kohn, VP of Fundraising, fundraisingleawood@gmail.com

SCRIP Program Update

There have been some great changes to the Scrip program that make it easier for you to earn rebates to apply towards any school fees (not just for Outdoor Lab)! The changes this year include:

If you want a reimbursement, the new process will be to submit a check request form (available on the PTSA website or in the financial office) for reimbursement to you directly. You will need to provide original receipts for the school fees. Return the form to the PTSA box in the front lobby or to the main office at Leawood. We ask for a 2-week turnaround time to mail out the checks. More information can be found on the PTSA website or by emailing leawoodloot@gmail.com  [new email address this year- please update your records].

***Find out more about PrestoPay to be able to easily get your eGift cards from your scrip Wallet.***

KINGSOOPERS rebates are coming!!

If you registered to have Leawood Elementary as your Community Rewards beneficiary for your KingSoopers card, you should be receiving an email in the next week or two with the amount you helped earn for the school; half of which goes to your child's SCRIP account.  But we need you to send those emails showing your contribution to leawoodloot@gmail.com  once you receive them.  They reset every quarter, so it's imperative that you forward that information so your scrip account can be allocated appropriately. The school doesn't receive information on how much each account earned over the quarter, so it's up to YOU to send those over or unfortunately you lose them.

New AND Improved Box Tops Program

The BoxTops Program is going digital!  Check out this FLYER for more information.  Still have actual BoxTops?  Send them to school - we are still accepting paper versions through the fall.

Classroom Parties support:

the Classrooms need YOU!

If you are interested in being a "room parent" for your student's class, please contact kelly.rodak@jeffco.k12.co.us

Duties include recruiting volunteers for classroom support as needed, overseeing holiday parties and acting as a liaison for PTSA/Accountability.

ALSO - we are in the process setting up a convenient way to share parent contact info with anybody interested for each grade level. Please be on the lookout for more information and how to participate (and the sign-ups for holiday parties) in your teacher's weekly newsletter sometime this month.

Wall of Pride

The Wall of Pride is Leawood’s way of acknowledging our responsible students. These good citizens are chosen by their teachers for demonstrating Respect, Responsibility and Safety. Students can be recognized for any of these traits during any month of the year, with the expectation that each student is recognized at least one time. These students will have their picture taken and will eat lunch with Mrs. Shehan during the monthly Wall of Pride lunch. The September Wall of Pride Students were:

Accountability Committee

We had a great turn out for our September 25th meeting!!

We had two special guests, Amanda P, our Community Superintendent, and John McDonald, executive director of safety in our district. We heard about the role of the Community Superintendent, and all of the amazing new safety features throughout the district thanks to 5B passing!

We also created a BRAND NEW problem solving matrix for families to use! This was created due to answers from the parent survey.  This will be a great resource for every family for every concern, whether it be with the school, teachers, your student, others, or a family concern. To access the flow chart, click below:

LEAWOOD PROBLEM SOLVING FLOW CHART

We also looked at data from school test scores last year. We saw great growth from last year, and are so excited to see us reach our goals.

Interested in diving into data more, and creating goals for the school??? Come to the DATA DIG in mid October. Contact Melissa for more information. This is a great time to see where the school stands in testing, as well as help problem solve areas needed for improvement.

Our next meeting is November 6th at 5:00 pm in the community room

Snacks and Childcare will be available

Contact Melissa Kohn (mekohn4@gmail.com) with any questions.
