OCTOBER COUNT DAY

Each year Jeffco Public Schools must provide the State of Colorado an official count of how many students are enrolled in our schools. Please Mark October 2nd on your calendar! The most important action you can take to support school funding is to make sure your student attends school that day. Much of public education funding from the State of Colorado is based on student count, and the official student count day this year is October 2nd.

The “count window” the state observes is September 25th – October 9th, and the key student count day is Wednesday, October 2nd. Please help us ensure all our students are accurately counted by having your student in class that day! If your child must be absent on October 3rd due to serious illness, please call our attendance line, 303-982-7813 to report the absence. Attendance during the “count window” will help counteract an absence on October 2nd, but it’s best to come to school that day. Thank you for your support of Leawood!

A Note from the School Secretary Mrs. Catron

Hello to my Leawood families, students and friends;

Leawood is such an awesome school to work at.  We have such a caring and giving staff, a beautiful community, and an environment that many other schools never have.  Our families and students are truly blessed.  I have been truly blessed as well to be a part of this wonderful “family”.  Leawood teaches not only our students, but everyone here teaches us the adults; they teach us to become a better person, a better friend, and enables us to learn more.

I have some bittersweet news to share.  I am going to go off to learn more.  I have accepted a position at the Jefferson County District Office.  It is an opportunity to advance within the district and to hopefully learn more and also share my skills that I’ve established doing my job over the many years.

It was a very difficult decision.  I did a lot of praying that I was making the right move. I cannot tell you all how much I’ve enjoyed working with  you and your children over the years.  I have met many families and shared many laughs, stories, and accomplishments with you over the years.  I will cherish the memories of Leawood; our wonderful leader, our teams, our staff, our parents, our kids, and our friends.

Since I do live in the area, I know I’ll see many of you around in the neighborhood, so if you see me, let's stop and chat.  I would love to catch up.  Best wishes and best of luck.  Your children are in one of the best schools in the district.

Regards,

Mrs. Catron

From the Health Room-We Welcome Stacy Pitts to Leawood

I am so excited to be a part of the Leawood Family. Thank you for welcoming me! If you have not had a chance to introduce yourself yet, please stop by and say hello! Things in the health room are running smoothly, but we could use some girls clothes, especially underwear. If you have any you were going to donate, please feel free to pass them our way. Don't forget, WASH those hands! The cold weather viruses will be starting up before we know it and the best way to stop them from spreading it to wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. Let's do our best to have a healthy fall!

Head Lice at School

We encourage you to check your child’s hair on a weekly basis now and throughout the school year.  Control of head lice depends on prompt identification, effective treatment, perseverance and teamwork!

Did you know that lice love a party?  Lice transmission is more likely to occur through sleepovers, family members and friends that spend large amounts of time together. School is not a common place for the spread of head lice.  .

HALLOWEEN PARTIES

Thursday, October 31st

All students may wear their costumes to school. The parade will begin immediately after morning announcements at 9:15am. The classroom parties will follow the parade. After the parties, about 10:30am, students will change into their school clothes and the rest of the day will be a normal school day. Students who don’t celebrate Halloween should come to school at 10:45. Please do call the attendance line to let us know they will be coming in later. The following are some guidelines to keep in mind as you prepare for Halloween:

Parents are invited to attend our costume parade, which will begin at approximately 9:15am. Visitors are requested to follow the above dress code. We plan to hold our parade outside on the soccer field. If inclement weather occurs, we will move the parade into the hallways and gym. Classroom parties will immediately follow the parade until approximately 10:45am.

PTSA will be sending out a SignUpGenius for parents to bring food, crafts and/or games.
