BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL SAFETY

Please follow all our safety rules before and after school:

Thank you Columbine Kiwanis Club

On behalf of our teachers and students, we would like to thank you for your $500.00 donation. We will use this to support health and safety resources for students and staff!  We were also able to buy Gimbowl Intelligent trackers for our teachers. These trackers allow teachers to record lessons with their phones. They feature 360-degree rotation, auto face tracking and object tracking which helps our teachers record themselves teaching and demonstrating without having to worry about the camera.

Thank you for all you do for our community. You truly make a difference.

OCTOBER COUNT DAY

Each year Jeffco Public Schools must provide the State of Colorado an official count of how many students are enrolled in our schools. Please Mark October 1st on your calendar! The most important action you can take to support school funding is to make sure your student attends school that day. Much of public education funding from the State of Colorado is based on student count, and the official student count day this year is October 1st.

The “count window” the state observes is September 24th – October 8th, and the key student count day is Thursday, October 1st. Please help us ensure all our students are accurately counted by having your student in class that day! If your child must be absent on October 1st due to serious illness, please call our attendance line, 303-982-7813 to report the absence. Attendance during the “count window” will help counteract an absence on October 1st, but it’s best to come to school that day. Thank you for your support of Leawood!

REMINDERS ABOUT ATTENDANCE AND TARDIES

Attendance Line: 303-982-7813

Please be sure you are calling the attendance line whenever your student will be out. Emailing the teacher as well is fine, but they don't always check it before Leah in the office pulls the line.  If you haven't called in, you will always receive a call to confirm your student's whereabouts.  We will keep calling everyone on your emergency list until we confirm. Preschool needs to use this line as well.

Tardies

School starts at 9:05am for grades 1-5 and full day Preschool. Their classroom and hallway entry doors will close at 9:05 am. After that time, students will need to enter through the main front entrance.  Students are marked tardy if they arrive after 9:10.

AM Preschool starts at 8:30, students will be marked tardy after 8:30.

PM Preschool starts at 12:30, students will be marked tardy after 12:30.

Kindergarten soft start doors open at 9:20 and close at 9:30. Kindergarten class starts at 9:30. Students will be marked tardy after 9:30 am. ONLY Kinders who have older siblings at Leawood or ride the bus may enter between 8:45-9:05. Please be sure to let your teacher know if this is necessary.

Early Dismissal

If you are picking your child up early, please call the office in advance at 303-982-7860. Come to the main entrance, ring the bell, and an office staff will come out and have you sign your child out.

We will get your child after you arrive.

From the Financial Office

Please go into Jeffco Connect and check your student's account to be sure that there are not any outstanding fees.  If you would like to arrange a payment plan, please contact Mrs. Russell at 303-982-7860 ext #5.

Chromebook Cases to Purchase

Available for 1st - 4th Graders

If you are interested in purchasing an 11.6 inch laptop sleeve for your students Chromebook, please email Mrs. Russell at margarita.russell@jeffco.k12.co.us.  She will add a fee of $10.50 to your students account.  As soon as the fee is paid, she will deliver the case to your student in his/her classroom.  This is a great way to protect the device from accidental water bottle spills, drops, and other damage that may occur while transporting devices back and forth between home and school.  (5th grade 1:1 Chromebooks and iPads already have cases)

Alternatively, please feel free to purchase a sleeve similar to this one for your student’s device directly from your favorite retailer!

Headphones available from our School Store

If you would like to purchase new headphones for your student, please contact Mrs. Russell at margarita.russell@jeffco.k12.co.us or 303-982-7860. She will add the $10.00 fee to your student and you can pay it online or over the phone. She will deliver the headphones to your students, once the fee is paid.

Welcome our new Health Aide, Luana Perry

Mrs. Perry has been at Leawood for 2 years as a Para Educator and now for her 3rd year she is joining us in the office. We are very excited to have her!

When your child is sick, they need to be fever free for 24 hours without medication before coming back to school.

Head Lice at School

Head lice are a nuisance – not a health hazard! The head louse, scientifically referred to as Pediculous humanus capitis, is a tiny insect that seems to evoke a super-sized response.  When a student is suspected to have head lice or lice nits, the student is referred to the school Health room to be checked. Parents may call the school to report their child has lice or teachers may send a student to the Health room because they have been itching their head excessively.

Did you know that lice love a party?  Lice transmission is more likely to occur through sleepovers, family members and friends that spend large amounts of time together. School is not a common place for the spread of head lice.

We encourage you to check your child’s hair on a weekly basis now and throughout the school year.  Control of head lice depends on prompt identification, effective treatment, perseverance and teamwork!

If you have additional questions or for information on how to treat identified lice, please read Jeffco Health Services Lice at school FAQ’s:

Shots for Tots and Teens

Shots for Tots and Teens is resuming our clinics on a clinic-by-clinic basis, with most clinics requiring an appointment. For information on individual clinics, including upcoming dates, locations and appointment requirements, please view the 2020 Shots for Tots and Teens flyer linked here:  ShotsforTotsandTeens

During COVID-19, it is very important not to delay vaccines, especially for young children; we encourage families to keep up to date with recommended immunizations! If you are unable to attend a Shots for Tots and Teens clinic but still need vaccines, contact your local health department
