From the Principal

Dear Leawood Families,

Welcome March! We’ll have to see if it “comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb.”  It is amazing to think that our second semester is well underway and that the cold of winter will soon disappear.  Spring break is just around the corner, and the end of the school year will be here before we know it! Thank you to all the families who attended conferences in February. Your child’s education is truly a collaborative effort to ensure that they are growing as learners and social individuals. I have often thought that this is the busiest time of year. Classrooms in our building are full of thoughtfully planned, engaging  and AUTHENTIC activities.  Our staff is incredible!  Those who choose to devote their lives to teaching children are unique individuals. They enter the teaching profession with the knowledge that they will be touching the heart and mind of a child forever.  We are so lucky to have such a dedicated staff working with our children each day.

GARDEN UPDATE - April 20th, SAVE THE DATE!!

Plans for our Leawood Garden are really coming ALIVE!! Thanks to Kristi Mueller who has stepped up as Team Lead and finalized the plans.  Check out the presentation here: LEAWOOD GARDEN PLANS. We still need lots of help planning, getting donations, and scheduling the events for the April 20th DAY OF SERVICE roll out!  On this day, all Columbine School Communities are planning projects for their communities to come together and pitch in to help.  Our festivities will be 9am to 3pm.  There will be lots of work to be done, but all amidst fun, friends, food, kids crafts, music, and maybe even some dancing.  Right now our biggest challenge is the funding and labor for the shed, the irrigation system, and the fence. If you have any connections to support us at low or no cost, please let us know. Lots more information coming soon. Email Kristi with questions or to offer support at kmueller0523@gmail.com.

CMAS State Assessments:

In March and April, our 3rd through 6th grade students will begin taking the CMAS state assessments. These assessments provide us with another measure of how our students are progressing toward state standards. We use this information as another way to ensure that we are meeting the needs of each student in our school. This data also allows us to make sure our classroom instruction is supporting our students. We appreciate your support in making sure that your child is at school on time during the testing.  Please check the schedule of testing for your student(s) and try to avoid any appointments during this time.  Thank you.  2019 CMAS Testing Schedule
