From the Principal

Leawood Families,

Thank you so much for attending your scheduled parent/teacher conference time.  Teachers work hard to ensure that conferences provide you with valuable insight into your child’s progress at school.  The team effort to make a positive impact on student learning is essential. Together, we will make it happen!  Home-school collaboration is so critical for student success. It is always our goal to have 100%, of our parents attend, but we know sometimes things just come up.  We encourage you to try to reschedule a time, even if it’s just a phone conference.

Thanks to PTSA, our room parents, and other volunteers who made our Halloween celebrations  today a huge success.  Although it was different this year, the kids were still thrilled to be in costume and enjoy the fun. There were so many creative costumes! Click here for a video of the parade.  2020 Halloween Parade

Thanks in advance to Amber Martin, and the many crafty volunteers working on the Children’s Holiday Workshop.  An information flyer went home in Friday folders last week (Click HERE) and you can find more information to order on the From Our PTSA page of this newsletter. Again this year, we have limited quantities of each craft, so order what you want early before they sell out.  Deadline to order is next Wednesday, November 4th.

This month we have a lot to look forward to. Our 10th annual Veterans Day Celebration will be held on Wednesday, November 11th.  We will be recording lots of special things to share with you and your family. We'll still be making cards for our veterans and will have them outside for you to pick up and share. Our next Accountability meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 4th from 6:00-7:30pm via Zoom, and PTSA this month is Wednesday, November 18th from 6:00-7:30pm on Zoom as well.

Remember our Thanksgiving break is Nov 23 - 27.

We hear more and more from parents requesting support with social-emotional and behavioral issues with their children.  We are thankful at Leawood to have 2 social workers, Mrs Magri and Mrs Weaver.  They have created this amazing website to support our families.  Check it out below:

Holiday Support

Is your family in need of some help this holiday season?  Please reach out using this confidential google form to let us know how we can support you!  Leawood provides annual Thanksgiving Boxes, with contributions from our staff and PTSA.  During December, we organize collections of new toys, games, books, and winter clothing for kids. Items can be picked up at school or delivered to your home during the week of December 14th.  All family information is kept confidential with our school social worker, Jennifer Magri, who you can contact with any questions, at (303) 982-4765 or jennifer.magri@jeffco.k12.co.us.

We have so many things to be thankful for as the Thanksgiving holidays approach. Leawood is a great place because of the families and staff who continue to generously care for and willingly give so much of themselves to us!  During these difficult times, I am reminded of all the blessings for which I am grateful. These include: the students, who come to school prepared to do their best each day; the parents, who make those home sacrifices that prepare our students for learning; the teachers, who dedicate time and energy to excellent instruction and to the creation of a positive learning environment; the staff, who handle all those small details that keep the school running smoothly for students and teachers; and the greater Leawood community that continues to support the needs of our children.  May you find time to reflect on all you are thankful for and make time to spend with those you love.

Thanks for all you do for our community of learners!! Leawood is an exciting place to Discover, Inspire, and Grow... Together!

Fondly,

Mrs. Shehan
