NOVEMBER 2023

Leawood Elementary School

Principal: Kevin Kolasa

From the Principal

Dear Leawood Families,

It finally looks like autumn is upon us. Leaves are falling, the weather is getting colder, and our lost and found is filling up. While I say that in jest, there is truth to that statement. Due to the time of year, with the weather being more erratic, please ensure your child has appropriate attire for outside recess. We want the students to be outside for recess to get fresh air, exercise, and have a much-needed break. Please label your students’ jackets, hats, and gloves with their names.

Each day at Leawood, we provide students with “Pride Bucks.” These are given to students who are demonstrating Safety, Responsibility, and Respect. Teachers incentivize the students by providing special opportunities for them in the classroom, such as pajama day or furry friend day. Starting in November, we will also highlight a character trait of the month that we want our students to learn more about and practice. This month’s trait is gratitude. Making gratitude a habit not only reminds us of all the good in our lives but can also help students to be more physically, socially, and psychologically healthy. Additionally, practicing gratitude helps students improve their mood and supports them in being more kind and helpful towards others.

Please feel free to use the resources below and talk to your children about gratitude.

I am very grateful for all of you in the Leawood community and all the staff and students. This is such a wonderful place to work.  I am grateful to be your principal!

Thank you!

Sincerely,

Leawood's Thanksgiving Boxes

Each November, the Leawood staff create Thanksgiving Boxes for families who may need some extra help with food for the week.  We provide items for the holiday as well as a few extra snacks for the kids.  Our PTSA provides a gift card to King Soopers from our Community Support Fund for perishables or meat.  If your family would benefit from this help, please complete the following form.  All information is confidential, and only provided to Jennifer Magri, our school social worker, who organizes and communicates with families about getting the boxes and/or gift cards to you.
