All three documents must be turned in at the time of registration.  If any items are not brought in, we cannot complete your registration.  Children must be 5 years of age on or before October 1, 2019.  Additional information regarding Jeffco Connect instructions and the registration process can be found on our Leawood home page.

CURRENT Leawood Students

There is a new enrollment process in Jeffco that EVERYONE must complete. This new process allows each school to better plan for classroom allocations and teacher placements.  There are two steps in the process - please make sure to complete both.

Step 1 - login to  EnrollJeffco between January 22 and  February 8 and indicate where your student(s) will be attending school in August.

Step 2- Complete the registration process in Jeffco Connect in late July.  (Specific dates TBD)

Current 5th and 6th Grade Students Moving on to  Ken Caryl for 2019-2020

Please remember that if your student is currently “choice enrolled” at Leawood Elementary, they will be assigned to a middle school base on residency.  If your student is planning on attending Ken Caryl Middle School next year, you will need to choice enroll them through EnrollJeffco.  Please follow the process mentioned above.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You

We would like to thank all of our staff, students, families and community members who contributed to our Leawood Giving Tree. We appreciate your kindness and know that you brightened the lives of many families over the holiday. We truly couldn’t do this without all of your support. Also, a big “Hooray” to our Leawood Counselor, Mrs. Magri, for organizing and coordinating this project.

Attendance

Just a reminder regarding absences: If your child is going to be late or absent, please call the attendance line at 303-982-7813. You will also need to give a reason as to why your student is going to be out or late. If no reason is given, your student will be marked unexcused. If you are picking a child up early, we will call them down after you arrive to sign them out. Unfortunately, we cannot call them down in advance. Thank you.

Protocol at Start of the Day

During our soft start daily, our teachers are busy assisting students or working on plans for the day and they sometimes are not available.  We ask that you do not just drop in on your student’s teacher.  Please email or call them ahead of time to schedule an appointment.

Also, just a reminder regarding the morning when you are dropping off your children - We ask that parents wait outside with their student(s) and have them enter the building from the outside by their grade level assigned doors.  The only grade level that should be coming through the front doors of the school is first grade, and students going to breakfast.

Please do not walk your students to their classrooms inside of the school.  The security of the school is our main priority and we cannot have visitors roaming the halls without having them sign in at the office and wearing a visitor badge.

We appreciate your help with this.

From the Financial Office

Please don't forget to go login to Jeffco Connect and verify that all of your student's fees have been paid. Fees that start with "OPT" are Optional fees for optional activities such as Gymnastics. Keep in mind that all of our field trips are paid online.  Students with outstanding fees at the end of the school year will not receive their report cards.   We will be adding the fees to your student as the date of the field trip approaches. While you are in Jeffco Connect, please verify your personal information and make sure we have updated phone numbers and email addresses. In addition, please be sure to add additional emergency contacts other than just parents listed just in case we are unable to reach a guardian. If you need assistance with fees, feel free to contact Mrs. Russell at 303-982-7860 ext. #5

From the Health Room:

If a child becomes sick at school the parent will be called. It is expected that the parent, or another designated adult, will pick up the child within the hour. We recommend that a child with a fever should return to school when they have been FREE of the fever (without medication) for a 24-hour period and recovered from their symptoms. Same rule applies to children that have the stomach bug.  We ask that all parents follow the “Golden Rule of Health”. Please remember that a child who is too sick to take part in outside activities would be more comfortable at home. For the protection of your child and his/her schoolmates, it is advised that children be kept at home if the following symptoms are present:

With the weather slowly changing we would like to remind everyone that the Health room does not provide any type of Chap Stick/Vaseline or lotion. Your student is allowed to keep Chap Stick in their back pack/class. The best way to stay healthy for the upcoming sick season is to wash hands thoroughly.  Also remember, as we’ve stated in previous newsletters, if you want your student to have any type of over the counter or prescription medicine, you must have your doctor fill out the appropriate medical forms.  We have them on our website or they are also located in our parent information rack outside the front office.

Stay Healthy,

Ms. Hake

We Need Your Help

Dear Leawood Community,

Leawood is once again participating in "Grub Club", a biweekly program in which homeless and/or emancipated students in Jefferson County receive boxes of food and hygiene products.   We are trying to fill more than 1,600 boxes for 2019, so any help you can give will help.  Leawood is collecting individual cookie packets and cans of chicken with a "pop-top" to distribute to these students.  It is important that the cans have a "pop-top" as the students don't have access to a can opener or regular kitchen, although they do have access to a microwave.   We would greatly appreciate your help in donating items between January 14th and February 7th.

Thank you!
