Read Across America Week
Read Across America Week is March 3-7 this year. This is an annual weeklong celebration of reading that was started in 1998 by the National Education Association (NEA), originally to celebrate Dr. Seuss (whose birthday is March 2) and his many books and how they've inspired children all over the country to read. Now it has expanded to include all reading, with the goal of creating & celebrating a nation of diverse readers.
This year at Leawood we will be having themed days with video read alouds for each day of Read Across America Week. Students who participate by dressing up will get their names entered into a drawing to win some prizes each day! Classes will have flashlight reading in the library as well as have some guest readers come to their classes.
