Dear Leawood Elementary Community,
We are thrilled to announce that the Leawood Fun Run was a tremendous success! Thanks to your generous support, we surpassed our fundraising goal of $8,000. These funds will go directly towards our playground expansion, helping us to get closer to our overall goal of $26,000. A huge thank you to everyone who participated, donated, and volunteered—your involvement makes a world of difference for our students!

Watch Dog Dads and Marvelous Moms Kickoff! 👨👩👧👦
Later this month, we are excited to kick off our Watch Dog Dads and Marvelous Moms program on October 3rd from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. These groups play a vital role in our school community. The purpose of Watch Dog Dads is twofold: to provide positive role models for our students, showing them that education is important, and to enhance school security by being an extra set of eyes and ears, helping to reduce bullying. To share my own experience from being a Watch Dog Dad at my children’s elementary school. I must admit that at the time, it seemed that the hours away from my job would be too much of a sacrifice. However, they continued to persist, and at the same time, I was hearing from many of the fathers how it was such an enriching experience for not just their kids but for them as well. My children were beyond excited the first time that I volunteered as the Watch Dog Dad at their school. They loved that I was there helping in the classroom and at recess, and all of the attention they were getting from friends by having me actively present in their school community. For me, I really enjoyed walking through my children’s schedules, meeting their teachers, and seeing firsthand what their typical day is like from a student's perspective. It was also from doing this that I decided I wanted to pursue a principalship at the elementary level. Thus far, here at Leawood, I have been amazed at the number of Marvelous Moms, Watch Dog Dads, and other volunteers who come to support the school. I am grateful to all of you! Please remember that there is no requirement to be at the school for the entirety of the school day. We can flex based on your availability.
We invite all dads and moms (grandparents) to join us and learn more about how you can make a positive impact at Leawood!
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community. Together, we are creating a nurturing and engaging environment for our children.
Sincerely,
Kevin Kolasa
Principal, Leawood Elementary
