Psst! We're moving!
The officiant’s calm, clear voice echoed through the silent hall as everyone held their breath, waiting for Guk’s response. He turned to look at Hyun-soo.
“Yes. I promise.”
The entire venue fell deathly quiet, all eyes fixed on the couple.
“There are over a hundred people here today. No lies allowed. Will you truly embrace Kim Hyun-soo with love, without a single speck of hesitation?”
“Yes. I make this promise in front of everyone.”
His answer was swift, firm, and resolute. The officiant smiled faintly and shifted his gaze to Hyun-soo. She felt her tension mount after hearing Guk’s words. Was he being sincere? She mulled it over again and again.
“Kim Hyun-soo.”
“...Yes.”
She had almost missed her cue. Nervousness made her grip the bouquet tighter.
“Do you sincerely vow to take Yoon Guk as your husband, to cherish, protect, and love him for the rest of your life?”
“Sincerely”? Was what she felt right now truly love?
She hoped he wouldn’t get hurt or face hardships. She wanted to see him smile occasionally and spend more time by his side. But was that really love?
Suddenly, a memory from the anniversary celebration flashed in her mind—the image of him with that beautiful woman beside him. They had looked like a perfect pair, one that could easily be mistaken for lovers.
How had she felt back then? She couldn’t quite recall. But one thing was certain: if she imagined that woman standing here instead of herself, she felt an overwhelming wave of nausea.
Love? She wasn’t sure if this was love, but she also couldn’t deny it entirely. At least her vows weren’t complete lies.
Hyun-soo reassured herself and nodded slowly.
“Yes, I promise.”
“This isn’t just a promise between you two; it’s a promise in front of everyone here today.”
“...Yes.”
“You must live well. Living well doesn’t mean constant happiness and laughter every day. There may be fights, quarrels, and disagreements. But as long as you stay within the boundaries you’ve set for each other and don’t run away, that’s what matters. Do you understand?”
“Yes.”
“Yes.”
Both Guk and Hyun-soo responded.
“No matter what happens, always communicate with each other. Respect one another. Even when love feels distant, trust each other. That is what living well looks like.”
The couple nodded, signaling their understanding. Hyun-soo tightened her grip on Guk’s arm slightly.
“As lovers, family members, friends, and companions, I hope you live an interesting life together. That is my blessing for the two of you.”
After concluding his sermon, the officiant smiled warmly and gave a light shrug. Guk and Hyun-soo exchanged smiles before turning to face each other. As their eyes met, an indescribable electric sensation coursed through them both.
The remaining parts of the ceremony flew by in a blur. When it came time to place the ring on Guk’s finger, Hyun-soo’s trembling hands caused him to chuckle softly. Still, there were no major hiccups. They exchanged rings as symbols of their promises and sealed their vows with a kiss.
After receiving congratulatory remarks about learning how to resolve conflicts—whether big or small—they moved on to pay respects to their parents. True to her role in initiating the marriage discussions, Ji-young embraced Hyun-soo warmly. Whispering her gratitude, Hyun-soo thanked her.
They then approached Hyun-sung, who sat alone on the opposite side. Guk and Hyun-soo stood side by side in front of him. An unspoken, delicate tension passed between the three of them.
Bowing deeply, they greeted him. Hyun-sung stood up and extended his hand. After a brief pause, Guk accepted the handshake while keeping his gaze lowered. Hyun-sung’s expression soured slightly.
“Live well. Take good care of Hyun-soo.”
“I will treasure her greatly.”
“Of course, you should.”
The conversation carried an underlying prickliness that made Hyun-soo tense. Though she doubted anything would happen in front of so many people, she knew their feelings toward each other weren’t exactly warm.
“Call home regularly.”
With that, Hyun-sung grabbed Hyun-soo’s hand tightly. Startled, she nearly dropped her bouquet but managed to nod awkwardly.
Just then, another hand suddenly pulled Hyun-sung’s away. Surprised, Hyun-soo turned to see Guk.
“What do you think you’re doing?”
“What?”
“You promised to treasure her, didn’t you? I’m simply ensuring you keep that promise.”
“This…”
“You’re making a scene. Behave yourself.”
“You insolent brat.”
No one could have predicted such an exchange between the two men standing so close. Hyun-sung forced a smile, trying to save face in front of the crowd. Only Hyun-soo, gripping Guk’s arm tightly, realized the gravity of the moment.
“Stop it. Please.”
Guk exhaled softly at Hyun-soo’s pleading whisper. She couldn’t even look at him, her eyes glued to the bouquet in her hands. If only he’d yell or throw a fit—it would feel cathartic.
Hyun-sung returned to his seat, slightly flushed, while Guk led Hyun-soo back to the center of the aisle. All that remained now was the exit procession.
“The groom and bride will now depart.”
The gentle piano melody of Led Zeppelin’s rearranged song filled the air as Guk and Hyun-soo began their slow walk down the pristine white path once more. This time, instead of flower girls, guests lined up to shower them with petals and cheers.
The soft music, applause, and cascade of red petals falling from above created a dreamlike atmosphere beneath the blue sky. With a gentle breeze brushing against them, everything felt surreal. For a fleeting moment, Hyun-soo couldn’t help but acknowledge the flutter in her heart.
‘Are you happy?’
And just like that, a sudden question brought her mood crashing down.
Among those cheering and scattering petals stood someone with arms crossed. Even from afar, it was easy to recognize her—her sister, Kim Eun-seo. Dressed in a cream-colored dress with her long hair swept behind her back, Eun-seo looked stunning, even to Hyun-soo.
‘What a farce.’
Caught off guard, Hyun-soo walked past Eun-seo without reacting. Amidst the thunderous applause and cheers, she glanced back briefly to see Eun-seo glaring at her menacingly, clearly interpreting the act as deliberate ignorance. But that wasn’t it at all. It wasn’t.
“Don’t worry about it.”
At that moment, Guk leaned in close and whispered into her ear. Startled, Hyun-soo flinched.
“What? What do you mean?”
“Don’t focus on anything else. Just follow me.”
Without giving her a chance to respond, Guk tugged her hand and exited the venue without looking back. As they stepped into the cool interior of the Soubin Pavilion, Hyun-soo shivered slightly from the sudden chill.
“Where are we going?”
“Home.”
“What?”
“Why are you so surprised?”
“We still have things to do. We need to greet everyone properly…”
“No more greetings. They’ll manage fine on their own.”
“Is this how someone in your position handles networking?”
Glancing back briefly, Guk smirked.
“Yes. Today, it’s fine.”
“What nonsense… We need to go back!”
Before she could finish, Guk yanked her hand, pulling her into an unfamiliar space. A loud thud signaled the door closing behind them.
“Where are we?”
“How should I know?”
“What do you mean, ‘how should I know’? You dragged me here without knowing where we are?”
“Take off your clothes.”
“What?”
“Turn around.”
Staring at him in disbelief, Hyun-soo found herself spun around abruptly. Facing the wall, she blinked rapidly.
“What are you doing?”
“I told you to undress.”
“So? Why are you doing this!”
“Why do you keep asking questions?”
She didn’t need to ask anymore. She already knew what he intended. Gathering her veil forward, Guk promptly unzipped her wedding dress, exposing her bare skin underneath.
“Hey! Yoon Guk! Are you crazy?”
Flustered, Hyun-soo turned to push him away. Unfazed, Guk continued undoing his tie and cufflinks without budging an inch.
“I’m turning around, so zip it back up.”
“You just unzipped it—why should I zip it back up?”
“Who asked you to unzip it in the first place? You did it on your own!”
“We’re both tired anyway.”
“What…?”
“Do you really want to go back out there? Stop being stubborn when we both know better.”
For a moment, Hyun-soo was speechless. He had hit the nail on the head. Rolling her eyes, she finally spoke.
“What does taking off clothes have to do with any of this, you pervert.”
“Pervert?”
“Yes, a pervert. In broad daylight, in a crowded place like this.”
After staring at her for a moment, Guk shook his head dismissively. He walked over to retrieve a paper bag from beside a chair and handed it to her.
“What’s this… Hey?”
“Change into this.”
“It’s clothes?”
Sure enough, inside the bag were jeans, a casual shirt, and even a dress.
“Well? Who’s the pervert now?”
“No, I just thought you suddenly…”
“What were you thinking?”
Tsking, Guk suddenly peeled off his shirt, revealing his toned physique. His muscles rippled smoothly as he reached for fresh clothes he’d prepared beforehand.
“Hurry up and change. We’re leaving.”
