Psst! We're moving!
Sheng Li was now fully awake. She scrambled out of bed, threw a shawl over her shoulders, and headed toward the door. Just as she reached it, her steps faltered. Standing behind the door, she hesitated before asking, “Yu Xiaochi, did you trick me?”
Yu Chi’s voice was calm. “You can open the door and see for yourself.”
Open the door…
What if no one was there? Wouldn’t that make her look ridiculous?
“Are you awake yet?” Yu Chi asked again, his tone tinged with lazy amusement. “If you’re awake, I’ll hang up.”
Sheng Li took a deep breath. Being outsmarted by this brat so early in the morning was a miscalculation on her part. With a blank expression, she ended the call.
She walked into the bathroom but suddenly turned back, carefully opening the door just a crack to peek outside—
The corridor was empty. Sheng Li had been duped.
At exactly seven o’clock, Sheng Li descended the stairs in a foul mood. The driver was already waiting at the entrance.
The drive from the hotel to the filming location took only ten minutes. Outside the makeup room, Sheng Li spotted Yu Chi. Today, he hadn’t brought his laptop. He leaned lazily against the wall, earphones in his ears, his eyelids half-lowered as he glanced at her with an air of indifference. He seemed to be in a good mood.
Sheng Li felt this might be the best mood he’d been in since being assigned to her as an assistant.
She walked over and stood in front of him, asking coolly, “Was tricking me fun?”
Yu Chi’s lips curved slightly upward. “Not bad.”
Sheng Li nodded. “Good then. Just be careful not to get carried away.”
The makeup artist poked her head out, holding an egg pancake, and said with a smile, “Good morning, Li Li. Yu Chi brought breakfast over.”
The crew had prepared breakfast, but egg pancakes weren’t on the menu.
Sheng Li enjoyed eating them, and sometimes Yuan Yuan would have the hotel chef make them. Seeing the disposable box of egg pancakes on the table, Sheng Li’s mood brightened. She turned to Yu Chi with a small smile. “Finally showing some assistant awareness, remembering what I like to eat.”
Yu Chi glanced at her, unlocked his phone, opened WeChat, and handed it to her, gesturing for her to take a look.
Sheng Li accepted it suspiciously and saw a Word document titled “The Two or Three Things You Need to Know to Be Li Li’s Assistant,” sent by the hospitalized chubby Yuan Yuan at 12:30 AM.
A wave of foreboding washed over her as she opened the document. The more she read, the darker her vision became. It wasn’t just two or three things—it was closer to two or three hundred! The document meticulously recorded her preferences and habits, down to the temperature of the water in her thermos (preferably 50°C), how long she could lie in bed in the morning, how quickly she could get up, and what to do if she refused to rise.
Even instructions on how to soothe her temper were included!
Additionally, there was a list of internal contacts within the production team—what to do in specific situations and whom to contact.
The entire document totaled 8,868 words—a very auspicious number.
An auspicious number that left Sheng Li utterly despairing! She stood frozen for a moment. By showing her this document, Yu Chi was blatantly mocking her for being overly sentimental. For the first time, she experienced the feeling of being sold out—and by her usually attentive assistant, no less.
Yu Chi watched her indifferently, sneering softly. “Do you need this much time to review your own affairs?”
Sheng Li: “….”
In her mind, she seethed with plans to fry or boil chubby Yuan Yuan once she was discharged. Tightening her lips, she didn’t ask a single question. Instead, she deleted the document directly, handed the phone back, and said calmly, “This kind of thing isn’t entirely accurate anyway. I’ve already deleted it.”
“No problem,” Yu Chi said nonchalantly, accepting the phone. “I have a photographic memory.”
Sheng Li: “….”
She rolled her eyes, turned around, and told the makeup artist, “Are you done eating? Let’s start with the makeup.”
While getting her makeup done, Sheng Li angrily messaged Yuan Yuan: [Chubby Yuan Yuan, are you really as resilient as you seem? Last night, fresh out of surgery lying in a hospital bed, you managed to churn out an 8,868-word document. Did you fake the surgery?]
Yuan Yuan replied quickly, sending a row of pitiful emoticons: [Real surgery! Real appendectomy! I woke up in pain!]
Yuan Yuan: [It wasn’t all written last night. I’ve been keeping records for a while now. This is the cumulative result!]
Sheng Li: [How did I not know you had such research results?]
Yuan Yuan: [Because I’m your assistant! Taking care of you is my job—you don’t need to know about it. Some of these habits, even you aren’t aware of. I figured them out through daily observation.]
She even sounded self-righteous. Based on Sheng Li’s understanding of her, Yuan Yuan probably expected praise right about now.
Sheng Li thought to herself, Such a smart person normally—how did she suddenly become so foolish? She glanced at Yu Chi. Without Yuan Yuan around today, Yu Chi couldn’t play the role of a young master anymore. He stood idly by the cabinet, hands in his pockets, waiting for the water to boil.
Sheng Li pursed her lips, glanced at the mirror where the makeup artist was focused on styling her hair, and typed a reply to Yuan Yuan: [If this document were handed to another man, it could be called “The Two or Three Hundred Things You Need to Know to Win Over Li Li.” Are you teaching someone how to be my assistant, or are you teaching them how to seduce me?!]
Yuan Yuan: [……]
Yuan Yuan: [Shock shock shock shock shock……]
Sheng Li: [Never mind. Yu Chi wouldn’t seduce me anyway. If anyone’s doing the seducing, it’ll be me.]
Yuan Yuan sent another row of shocked emojis……
Sheng Li closed the chat window with Yuan Yuan and suddenly felt lighter. She lowered her gaze and sent Yu Chi a message: [Photographic memory, huh? Impressive. Remember everything about Sister carefully, okay? Don’t forget anything.]
Ding dong.
Yu Chi pulled out his phone, glanced at it, paused for a moment, and turned his head to meet her mischievous, pleased gaze. Suddenly, he understood.
Without changing his expression, he set the phone down and turned back, staring at the kettle.
After a while, there was a soft click—the sound of the kettle shutting off after the water boiled. It echoed like a heartbeat pounding in his chest.

At one o’clock in the afternoon, Sheng Li finished her morning scenes. Director Liu asked with concern, “Your assistant will be hospitalized for a while, right? Can you manage on your own?”
“What about the other temporary assistant?” Sheng Li smiled and added a few more sentences. “There’s no problem. It’s a good chance to exploit that guy’s labor. After all, his allergy mishap delayed so much work.”
Her words were meant for others to hear, to avoid gossip behind her back.
Director Liu chuckled. “That’s fine then. If you need help, let Rong Hua arrange another assistant for you, or the crew can assign one temporarily.”
Sheng Li politely declined Director Liu’s offer. Temporary assistants were too prone to causing trouble.
Noon was the hottest part of the day, but dark clouds gathered, and a gentle breeze blew, bringing a touch of coolness compared to previous days.
“Is it going to rain?”
“If it rains, we won’t be able to film, right?”
“Director, should we pack up? Or wait a bit longer?”
“They’re here? Find a place to sit for a while. I’ll come over later.” Yu Chi was on the phone. Sheng Li returned to the rest area, exhausted, and collapsed onto a reclining chair next to him. Because of the heat, she always tied her ancient costume skirt up to her waist and rolled her pants up above her knees whenever she rested after filming. Her long, slender legs crossed elegantly, her ankles delicate, her lines beautiful.
Yu Chi glanced sideways, then lowered his gaze. He spoke to Xu Yang on the phone. “I have something to do, so I can only stay for a while.”
Xu Yang: “What’s up? Need help?”
“No, you guys go ahead and have fun.”
Yu Chi hung up and turned to face Sheng Li, who was staring at him. “Who’s coming to see you?”
“Classmates,” he said.
Sheng Li raised an eyebrow. “Boys or girls?”
Just then, Director Liu, having observed the weather, called out, “It’s probably going to rain. Everyone, pack up and call it a day. Further arrangements will be made after the rain stops.”
The crew instantly burst into a flurry of activity, bustling and noisy. No one paid attention to this side.
“Both,” Yu Chi said, looking down at her from his height. “Since we’re wrapping up early, why don’t you go back to the hotel and rest? I’ll be out for a while.”
Sheng Li uncrossed her legs, stood up, and looked at him. “Fine, but it’s about to rain. Let the driver drop you off first.”
“No need,” Yu Chi refused.
Sheng Li stared straight at him, blinking. “I’ll go see your female classmates. They’ve come so far to see you—they must not be ordinary classmates, right?”
Yu Chi gave her a cold look for a few seconds. “Suit yourself.”
Half an hour later, both got into the car.
Yu Chi didn’t sit in the back. He sat in the front passenger seat, occasionally giving directions to the driver.
Sheng Li’s tendency to fall asleep in cars kicked in again. Not long after, she hugged her fox-shaped pillow and closed her eyes. When the car stopped, she didn’t wake up immediately. Yu Chi opened the door and got out, glancing back at the rear seat. The woman’s head rested against the car window, her collarbones straight and elegant, her thick black hair cascading over her chest. Her chest rose and fell slowly with her breathing. Her face was the kind that looked stunning on camera—small, with delicate features, smooth skin, and full cheeks. When she slept, she resembled a soft, beautiful, and noble cat.
He gently closed the door and walked away.
The sound of the door closing startled Sheng Li awake. She sat up and looked around. The front passenger seat was already empty.
Turning her head to look outside, the tall, slim figure of the youth was already walking away. She clicked her tongue, picked up her phone, and called him. “Yu Chi, you just left me behind without a word?”
Yu Chi’s steps faltered slightly, but he didn’t turn around. His tone was flat. “What else was I supposed to do? Are you really going to follow me to meet my classmates? What would I even say? Are you insane?”
You’re the one who’s insane.
But…
It did seem a bit inappropriate.
Sheng Li tapped her fingers on her knee, thought for a moment, and asked, “Do any of your classmates happen to be my fans?”
After a long pause, Yu Chi snorted coldly. “One. A die-hard fan.”
“When are they leaving?”
“What are you planning?”
“If they’re still here tonight, you can bring them to the set. You have a work permit, so you can take them in—but no photos.”
Raindrops began pelting the car windows without warning. Sheng Li blinked, watching Yu Chi stride forward and quickly enter a dessert shop.
A few seconds later, his clear, cool voice mingled with the sound of rain reached her ears. “No need. They can entertain themselves.”
Sheng Li: “….”
With a cold expression, she ended the call and told the driver to take her back to the hotel.

Summer rain came swiftly and departed just as quickly.
By five o’clock in the evening, the director announced that filming would continue that night. Sheng Li had initially considered giving Yu Chi the night off but changed her mind. She sent him a screenshot of the notification, signaling for him to return and resume his duties as her assistant.
A few seconds later—
Yu Xiaochi: [Mm.]
At six-thirty, Sheng Li stepped out of the car and immediately spotted Yu Chi standing ahead with his hands in his pockets, his expression cold. Beside him stood his classmates—three boys and two girls—all visibly excited. One chubby boy in particular was practically glowing, his eyes shining with admiration as if he were on the verge of tears from sheer excitement.
This… must be her die-hard fan.
Sure enough, Hu Yiyan, the brain-dead fan, stammered with emotion: “Li Li! Th-this is really… you! I-I…”
“It’s me,” Sheng Li said, pulling down her mask and flashing them a radiant smile. She glanced up, catching Yu Chi’s gaze, then let her eyes drift to the quiet, refined-looking girl standing beside him.
The girl was quite pretty, and when paired with Yu Chi, they made a striking couple. However…
She stood out a little too much.
Sheng Li walked over to them, stopping a few steps away. “I thought you weren’t coming?”
Hu Yiyan watched, frozen, as his goddess approached. His heart nearly stopped. Overcome with emotion, he stepped forward, extending his hand to shake hers…
But a slender, toned arm suddenly blocked his path.
Yu Chi’s tone was calm but firm. “Don’t try anything.”
