Psst! We're moving!
Recently, whether it’s her or the people around her, everything seems to be going wrong. While here on a work-related trip, Xu Wu bought a wish plaque.
Since everyone says Fuling Temple is very auspicious, she wanted to give it a try.
Her wish was actually quite simple—four bold black characters were enough to fill the wooden wish plaque.
She wished for everything to be safe and smooth. That had always been her greatest hope.
Shu Ke finished writing quickly and hung her plaque before Zhou Jinye caught her eye. Following his gaze, she turned around.
She even “accidentally” glanced at Zhou Jinye again and again, noticing that his eyes never left a certain someone.
His gaze was like that of a TV drama male lead looking at his beloved heroine.
From the moment he followed them in the morning, this further confirmed Shu Ke’s speculation from the previous day about Xu Wu.
The red ribbon of the wish plaque fluttered gently against Xu Wu’s hand as she hung it, casting small shadows. After hanging it, she let go.
Her wish plaque joined the others, and the small bell below rang softly in the breeze.
At this moment, the vibration of her phone came through several layers of fabric.
Because of her work schedule, she was accustomed to setting her phone to vibrate mode.
In her WeChat messages, the caller’s information wasn’t labeled with a name, but recent conversations made it clear who it was.
Aside from industry-related discussions from a few days ago, there were also those casual “good morning” and “good night” messages.
It was the person Lin Qingya had mentioned during the Mid-Autumn Festival—the son of her friend.
[After talking for so long, do you have time to meet today?]
Xu Wu thought of him as Lin Qingya’s friend’s son and politely declined via text: [I’m out of town on business right now—it’s not convenient.]
The message “typing…” appeared on the screen but no response came through.
Xu Wu exited the chat and turned off the screen.
All the filming here was completed smoothly. Their schedule only required them to stay until the morning, so they packed up their luggage and checked out early.
After finishing lunch, Xu Wu wandered into a street stall for a while but found nothing suitable for Pudding. As she walked, she spotted a yarn shop.
Knowing how to knit scarves, she decided to make one for Pudding. The store had many colors of yarn neatly organized by type, thickness, and texture.
Since she only needed to knit a scarf, she went to the section with 4-5mm yarn and picked out two balls of different colors along with knitting needles.
“Xu Wu, let’s ride with Jinye Ge.”
Shu Ke dragged her two suitcases toward Xu Wu, who had just stepped out.
“I…”
Before she could decline, her forearm was pulled toward the SUV. Shu Ke grabbed Xu Wu’s bag, placed it in the back seat, and secured it inside.
“…”
“I’ll sit in the back and keep an eye on your bag,” Shu Ke moved the bag to the other side and sat down. “Xu Wu, I’ll sit here—you take the front.”
She didn’t give Xu Wu any chance to speak, making it hard for her to refuse.
Xu Wu pushed her suitcase toward the trunk.
“I’ll handle it,” Zhou Jinye opened the trunk. “You get in first.”
“Thank you.” Xu Wu handed her luggage over to him.

She had just fastened her seatbelt in the passenger seat when the seat next to her sank slightly.
He suddenly turned his head to meet her gaze, but she quickly looked away.
Zhou Jinye observed her sitting stiffly. “This seat isn’t used often—I haven’t adjusted it much. With a three to four-hour drive, sitting like this might hurt your back later. Do you want me to adjust it?”
No one really used this seat much.
Through the rearview mirror, Shu Ke quietly observed them, gathering useful information.
Indeed, sitting like this wasn’t comfortable, but Xu Wu didn’t know how to adjust the passenger seat in an SUV, so she said, “Yes, can you help me adjust it?”
Suddenly, a familiar scent unexpectedly wafted over. His arm brushed against her, his clothes tightening with the movement, revealing clearly defined muscles.
A subtle warmth seeped through the fabric of her thighs. Xu Wu froze in her seat, maintaining her original posture without moving.
His distinct knuckles slowly turned the small wheel on the side, and the backrest gradually reclined.
“It’s done.” After adjusting it to a comfortable position, Zhou Jinye stood up from Xu Wu’s seat.
She looked at him, her gaze lingering on his dry, slender fingers. She had assumed the adjustment button was on his side, which is why she asked him to help.
Who would have thought…
She should have asked where to adjust it first.
Noticing her gaze, Zhou Jinye looked over. “What’s wrong?” She quickly turned her head and calmly replied, “Nothing.”
The car fell silent.
“Jinye Ge,” Shu Ke began creating conversation. “Do you have a girlfriend?”
Zhou Jinye didn’t understand. Through the rearview mirror, he looked at Shu Ke. “No, why?”
“I didn’t expect someone with your looks to be single too.” She glanced at Xu Wu leaning against the passenger seat. “So, do you have anyone you like or admire?”
Throughout the conversation, Xu Wu did not participate. She turned her head, looking outside at the passing scenery.
Out of the corner of his eye, Zhou Jinye glanced at her before focusing back on the road. “What are you trying to do?”
Shu Ke spread her hands innocently. “Nothing, I’m just asking casually.”
“And besides, I don’t think being single is bad. After all, I’m single too. Oh, and Xu Wu is also single.”
“…”
The last sentence was spoken slowly, deliberately emphasizing it.
If there had been a hole in the car, Xu Wu would have unhesitatingly dived into it.
Her habit of feeling awkward for others kicked in.
“Mm,” he kept his eyes on the road ahead and chuckled softly. “I know.”
Shu Ke smirked faintly. “Is that so?”

On the way, Zhou Jinye drove silently.
They stopped briefly at a rest area halfway back.
By around 4 PM, the navigation icon showed they had reached the urban area.
With both hands on the wheel, Zhou Jinye asked them, “Where do you want to go?”
After this video shoot, the rest could be completed easily. Xu Wu’s project with Bo Heng was nearly finished, and she needed to return to the company to retrieve some documents. “Are you heading back to the company?”
Zhou Jinye glanced at her and nodded.
“If it’s convenient, pull over on Lingmei Road, and I’ll get out near my company.” Xu Wu said.
“Alright.”
“My brother should still be at the company by now,” Shu Ke, seeing Zhou Jinye nod, spoke to him. “Then I’ll go to your place, and my driver will pick me up later.”
Xu Wu’s bag wasn’t large, so she had Shu Ke pass it forward from the back. Grabbing her own luggage, she got out of the car and said to Zhou Jinye, “Thank you for today.”
Watching her slim figure disappear into the company entrance, Shu Ke couldn’t help but sigh, “Xu Wu works so hard.”
“What do you mean?” With her figure gone, Zhou Jinye shifted his gaze from the window to Shu Ke.
“The Bo Heng project wasn’t originally under her responsibility, but someone messed up, so our company sent Xu Wu to take over. She had just returned from a business trip and hadn’t rested yet.”
“The key point is, the person who caused the issue returned unscathed and resumed work. During a colleague chat, someone told me she even managed to turn it into a major project.”
“The position of deputy director is currently being selected. Her resources are vast, and aside from Bo Heng, she has no other comparable projects, so after finishing this, she has to find another. Otherwise, if she loses the promotion, her future will be even tougher.”
Shu Ke laid it all out.
After listening, Zhou Jinye’s eyes darkened beneath his lashes. His fingertips tapped idly on the steering wheel.
He seemed to be recalling something.
He remembered the wet papers on the carpet from Pudding the other night and roughly understood the situation.

Back at the company, Li Qingyang had known they were coming and waited for them at the reception. Seeing the injury on Shu Ke’s forehead, he clicked his tongue. “Why didn’t you mention you hurt your forehead?”
“It’s nothing serious—just slipped on a rainy day.” Worried he’d scold her, she nervously scratched her head.
“Well, as long as you’re fine. You’re pretty tough for not mentioning it when you got back.”
Li Qingyang’s limp was barely noticeable as he walked, but Zhou Jinye obviously noticed and frowned. “You still haven’t gone to the hospital to register?”
Li Qingyang replied, “There were too many people—I couldn’t get an appointment.”
The general surgery department wasn’t that crowded.
“You don’t have to go to the hospital. There are specialized places for trimming toenails—you could go there.” He chuckled knowingly, exposing him. “Or are you actually afraid of pain?”
“Who said that?” He hooked his arm around Zhou Jinye’s neck and retorted, “There’s been a lot going on at the exhibition recently—I haven’t had time to go to the hospital.”
“My sister is here—you could show me some respect.” He whispered softly into his ear.
Since childhood, Li Qingyang had been sent back to the countryside by his father to experience life. When Shu Ke was born, he wasn’t there, only returning to reconnect with her in middle school.
Li Qingyang had always maintained the image of a good older brother, leading by example.
Sometimes he would impose expectations on Shu Ke.
Zhou Jinye lazily leaned against the reception desk and forced a smile. “Alright, then take a few days off, go to the hospital to fix your ingrown toenail, and come back to work once your foot is better. Leave the exhibition arrangements to me.”
“Alright, deal.” Li Qingyang released him and patted his shoulder. “I’ll leave it to you.”
Just as he was about to leave, he remembered something official to mention. “Oh, by the way, Fan Xiang called earlier to ask about the exhibition setup. Once you’ve finalized it, remember to inform him.”
“Mm.” Zhou Jinye’s hand was in his pocket, lightly rubbing his phone case. “Got it.”
After Li Qingyang left, he entered his office and leaned back on the desk.
His office was on a high floor, offering an unobstructed view of the buildings outside through the glass windows.
After a moment, he unlocked his phone, scrolled through his contacts, and dialed that number.
