Yoona Shim is a first-year undergraduate student at the University of Michigan. She is
majoring in International Studies and has always been interested in the interconnection
between the economy and politics. With her keen interest in social issues, Yoona interned at
the Korean National Assembly in 2022-23. During her internship, Yoona attained extensive
experience in public relations including press releases, blog editing, campaigns, and YouTube
channel management.
Yoona is active about expanding her world. She enjoys playing the Heageum, a
traditional Korean instrument in her free time. She has played Heageum with other
performers of different instruments or as a part of an orchestra in various performances and
events in and outside school. She also loves to learn new cultures and languages. She has
learned Korean, English, French, and Japanese. After graduation, Yoona aspires to work in
the White House, using her communication skills, knowledge, and experience in international
politics. Her ultimate goal is to become a societal leader, serving marginalized and
underrepresented communities and building a more inclusive world for everyone.
