Jihyo Yoo is a freshman at the University of Michigan. Although she is not sure about what she wants to study yet, she is open to learning about different fields and hopes to explore her interests during her time at Michigan. Born in Seoul, South Korea, she moved to Rochester Hills, Michigan at the age of five and has been living there since. Korean food is one of the ways that she continues to retain her cultural ties, which remains important to her despite the distance from her native country.
Jihyo is actually a picky eater—there's plenty of food that she has not tried (and probably never will). She has recently been trying to make an effort to broaden her palate; in fact, she tried a taco for the first time during her trip to New York this summer. Although she avoids foods that she hasn’t tried yet or doesn’t like, Jihyo loves to indulge on foods that are tried and true to her, some of which include salmon, chicken alfredo, and of course, the chosen topic of her essay, tteok.
