Wenshan Wang, an avid explorer and life recorder, brings a rich culinary experience to her writing. Having traveled and stayed in different countries and cities and immersing herself in different cultures, her travels have been a feast for the senses and a profound exploration of the connection between food and culture.
Originally from Dalian, a city located in northeastern China bordering North Korea, Wenshan was influenced by neighboring Korean culture and grew up enjoying Korean food, which provided a unique perspective on her experiences at Korean restaurants in the U.S. Adept at history and economics classes, Wenshan's essays delve into the historical and cultural context of food, as well as its impact on a worldwide level.
Wenshan also volunteers for food-related activities, such as reprocessing surplus food from school cafeterias for delivery to nursing homes or elementary schools. She also volunteered at L'Arche Farm in Tacoma, Washington to help people with intellectual disabilities. All of these experiences have given Wenshan a deeper appreciation for food. She believed that food creates community.
Currently, Wenshan Wang is a sophomore math finance major at the University of Michigan.
