Growing up as a dual citizen of Germany and the USA with two German parents, Abby developed a strong sense of pride in her culture from a young age. One of her favorite pastimes is listening to music, particularly EDM genres such as house, dubstep, and especially techno. She enjoys researching the connections between the birth of techno music in Detroit and Berlin and exploring how these cultural intersections relate to her identity.
Navigating her dual citizenship often poses challenges in finding a singular cultural identity. However, Abby and her family cultivate a sense of pride through the sharing of traditional recipes and baking experiences. These cherished German dishes provide her with comfort and reinforce her connection to her heritage. Among them, Abby’s favorite remains the classic German pretzel, a recipe lovingly passed down from her great-grandmother.
Looking forward, Abby aspires to delve deeper into various cuisines and their cultural significance. She aims to highlight the role of food as a bridge between identities by showcasing how recipes can tell stories of tradition and belonging. Abby hopes to inspire others to explore their own cultures and embrace the narratives that food can convey.
