Chiaki Hada

Chiaki Hada is a freshman majoring in environmental science in the Program in the Environment (PitE). She is from Ann Arbor and chose the University of Michigan because of its well-rounded environmental program. Chiaki has grown up alongside her two older brothers and family's pet cat, named Jelly. A few interests of hers are cars and motorsports, jewelry-making, and bird watching.

Chiaki holds dual citizenship with America and Japan, though has never lived in Japan. Being raised by an Italian-Dutch mother and a Japanese father, she is particularly fond of food from these cultures. A favorite connection of hers between Italian and Japanese cuisines is their frequent use of umami flavors, particularly through mushrooms.
