Sophia Morovati is a freshman at the University of Michigan planning to major in economics and minor in business. She is an active member of clubs such as the Jewish Business Association, Business @ Michigan, and Net Impact, focusing her efforts on business and sustainability.
Sophia’s interests do not only lie within the environment and business–she is also extremely passionate about her culture. Her parents are both Persian-Jewish immigrants who escaped the 1979 Iranian Revolution. Since then, they have devoted their parenthood to spreading their heritage to Sophia and her two elder sisters. One of Sophia’s favorite ways to connect with her culture is through food, specifically ghormeh sabzi–a traditional Persian stew she has grown up eating at weekly Shabbat dinners.
Growing up in Los Angeles, Sophia has been exposed to cuisines from all over the world, ranging from authentic (and delicious) Mexican food to Israeli and Asian dishes. With her background, Sophia has become devoted to traveling and local exploration, ensuring she seeks out unfamiliar tastes and experiences along the way in order to expand her worldview.
