Maciej Gabrys is a freshman member of the University of Michigan Men's Swimming Team. From southern Poland, he began competitive swimming at the young age of nine when his PE teacher noticed his athletic ability and signed up for his first swim race. After joining the club, Maciej started getting regular training. His sports results improved, and his mind got shaped thanks to regular, peaceful movement in a stimulant-deprived water environment. Maciej attributes his personal growth to swimming.Â
He sees his future beyond sports in engineering and business management. Taking the challenge of studying at the University of Michigan shall allow him to explore his skills deeply and hopefully make the world a better place.
Like most athletes, Maciej has a great appetite. He enjoys European cuisine, mainly Polish and Mediterranean. He enjoys cooking but usually only cooks during weekends due to his hectic schedule. He likes spending time with family in the kitchen, preparing food for special occasions such as Christmas, with the most challenging being pierogi (traditional Polish dumplings).
