Lara Jomaa was born and raised in Dearborn, Michigan, a city known for its vibrant Arab-American community and rich food culture. She is a first-year undergraduate student at the University of Michigan. As the daughter of a Moroccan mother and Lebanese father, Lara grew up at the intersection of three cultures: American, Moroccan, and Lebanese. From an early age, food became her way of understanding and celebrating identity.
Her lived experience inspires a passion for exploring how cuisine expresses culture, memory, and belonging. Whether discovering local favorites like Basil Babe in Ypsilanti or Namaste Flavors in Ann Arbor, Lara views each meal as a story waiting to be told.
Looking ahead, she hopes to continue writing about food as a lens into identity and community, while sharing how her heritage has shaped the way she sees, tastes, and tells the world around her.
