Farah Eshak is a first-year student at the University of Michigan studying biology in the pursuit of a career in healthcare. Born into an Iraqi family, she has always cherished the foods that gather her family together and create a warm environment. She sees food as a connection to culture, family, and identity. Farah was raised in Michigan; however, she still has an immense appreciation for the flavors and traditions of Iraq. Her interest in food goes beyond just the taste. It is about understanding the process and the community in order to preserve the overlooked culture. She writes to honor past generations by sharing decades-old stories and recipes, and she hopes to further explore the foods and cultures around the world.
