Kanika Verma is a Freshman at the University of Michigan pursuing a degree in Biology, Health, and Society with a minor in Asian Languages and Culture. Originally hailing from the bustling city of Queens, New York, she spent 7 years on Long Island with her extended family of 13. It was here where she and her family bonded through their shared love and appreciation for Indian food. Being branded as the cook of the family from an early age, Kanika found her spot in the kitchen as she conjured up different dishes daily for her family members, enriching her understanding of her heritage and roots. She soon traveled away from New York to West Michigan, where she has grown up most of her life. Being a proud Michigander, Kanika now studies at the University of Michigan where she participates in many academic activities. This includes the role of Vice President of the Diabetes Link, being a Student Leader for a chemistry course at the University, becoming the Director of Outreach for the Student Panel and more. However, she doesn't forget to still enjoy her youth and indulges in going out to eat whenever she can. Her favorites include Butter Chicken and Roti. After she recieves her Degree in Biology, Health, and Society with a minor in Asian Languages and Culture, Kanika will be pursuing a further education in Medical School to become a Pediatric Endocrinologist.Â
