Nan Xiang, as known by many other nicknames — Michael, Mike or X by his high school friends and classmates, is a first year undergraduate student in the University of Michigan, pursuing a major in biochemistry under the college of LSA. Born and raised in Shenzhen, China, Michael loves playing basketball starting at the age of 6 and has been playing and winning in several levels of competition, including the National U13 tournament in China. Prior to coming to Michigan, he was a Stony Brook Bear in Long Island, NY, participating in all areas of his interest — varsity basketball, Science Olympiad, photography and videography. Following the traditional Chinese motto “read ten thousand scrolls and travel ten thousand miles”, he strives to achieve excellence in his study and travel as much as he can across the globe — Asia, Africa, America, and so on. Deeply influenced by his Chinese cultural roots, Michael is always passionate about food, especially the Chinese hot pot, but he has always aimed to experience the explosion of flavors in all parts of the world. Michael's zest for life lies in his deep love for music, gaming, and other ways of entertainment such as movies and shows, providing him with a broad cultural palette and a well-rounded perspective.
