Saqer Sharif is a shepherd, a cook, and a pre-med student at the University of Michigan. His early childhood was in Yemen's deserts as a young shepherd, where he fed, milked, and cared for his family's goats. He lived a nomadic lifestyle, always on the move, barely maintaining a healthy weight with dates and goat milk. The harsh lifestyle resulted in many unaffordable hospital visits, and he eventually discovered he had severe asthma. As his health declined, his family decided to cross the Atlantic to the United States for a brighter future. His asthma led to many midnight ER visits, where he found an unexpected sense of peace, as the doctors helped him stay afloat. Amid the loneliness and hardship, food became his comfort. As a result, cooking became a hobby he embraced on his journey to becoming an MD.
