Matthew Jia is currently a sophomore at the University of Michigan, pursuing a computer science major and mathematics minor. As a child, Matthew had many hobbies, including playing the piano and chess, and painting, all of which gradually gave way to his growing dedication to swimming. When he was 14, he won his first state champion medal, and would later qualify for his first national competition at the age of 17. He ended his 12 year long swimming career after his final year at Bloomfield Hills High School in Michigan.Â
Now at university, Matthew has picked up new hobbies: reading, writing, and cooking. These activities not only offer him a break from his study schedule but also help him explore different cultures and perspectives. Matthew loves walking through the streets of Ann Arbor and trying the endless variety of food that the vibrant city has to offer. As he explores more restaurants, Matthew looks forward to sharing his experiences with the world.
