Engineering

Overview

The Engineering Estimates are used to calculate the cost of Materials and Services used to manufacture various machined products, for example:

• Shafts

• Gears

Services

Services need to be set up with a Unit of Hr/s or Minutes. A Service Component needs to be created for each product, and the Services required to produce the Product need to be added to the Component. The Code on the component needs to match the Product Name - e.g.. Shaft.

Materials

In this Estimate Type, only one material will be added according to the selected Material Grade and the size of the Product.  The selected Material can be changed by checking the Material Override. 

If a Fixed Price is obtained for the specific length of the material required, it can be added to the Fixed Price field, and a Quote Reference can be added to the Supplier Reference field. 

If you want to change the selected material, right-click on the Material and select the Change Material menu item. Select from other Materials in the same Category. 

Items > Fasteners (Class) - A Pitch field is found in Categories that have Threads. The description generator for Fasteners includes the Pitch and the Grade.  

Override

Functionality is provided to override the Materials and Services by checking the Override checkboxes on the Form tab.

Outsourced

Check the Outsourced checkbox to remove all the Materials and Services. When a product is outsourced, all the Materials and Services are deleted, and a Custom item is added to the Input tab where the Supplier can be selected and a Price added. 

Information Bar 

Warnings and Information are saved to a field in the Estimate type so they persist after the Estimate has been completed. The following information is provided:

• Date Material Price last updated
