Here is an example chart of how tariffs is affecting us more than ever since 1910.
Are you looking at your online prices going up? Feeling the pinch from that hefty shipping fee? Rising prices might not be just inflation– it could be tariffs quietly driving up the cost of the things you buy online almost every single week.
On April 2nd, 2025, Trump announced a 10% tariff on ALL US imports which would be effective April 5th. This announcement got retaliation from trade partners and triggered a stock market crash of 6.6 trillion in value. As you know China makes and produces over 70-80% of everyday consumer goods worldwide. China is a major supplier of goods to the United states. (Electronics, clothing, toys, & more.)
Tariffs will most likely have negative effects on pricing, inflation, and the perception of the U.S. as a global economy. But will tariffs affect everyone, particularly lower-income individuals?
"When the economy goes down, everybodys affected if the tariffs stay in place, which i'm not so sure they will. But they will definitely hurt lower income more than upper income," said Mr. Silverman.
The actual problem with Tariffs is the diminish of productivity and overpriced for lower class families when they can barely afford groceries and everyday items. People are calling this the Trump Trade War.
Since the Prices are being raised, it also raises the price of the foreign goods. But it gives domestic market producers an opportunity to raise their prices so they won't take the hit on their own companies. Teenagers and young adults are going to have a harder time getting by or just surviving the month. And the things that are really important for Young people are not just the consuming items but also getting a house, getting into colleges, and buying a car. These things are going to be more expensive than everyday items like electronics.
"A Lot of people are going to suffer because you do have a lot of people who have progras such as with EBT or welfare they're also going to have to pay more, it's just something that will have to be sacrificed," said Mr. Milton
This may potentially impact American citizens Financial well-being and access to education. This can strain household budgets.
Citizens Tariffs also affect small online businesses because consumers are likely to buy fewer products online due to the big shipping fee. This would lead to businesses shutting down or getting rid of alot of their stocks. Many companies like temu, shein, aliexpress get their revenues from fees for processing foreign merchant sales. A dip in their sales volume could affect all of their businesses.
¨The people are going to be the ones suffering as a result, to combat Tariffs people should instead save money and stop buying a lot of stuff because of the shipping fees until tariffs go away.¨ Said Mr. Milton a history teacher.
Imposing Tariffs on information technology, hinders access, stifles innovation, creates barriers to the tools that empower the next generation of learners and leaders.
