Boredom:

Good or Bad?

Boredom. It has to be one of the most annoying and uncomfortable states to be in for our current generation. If you went out on the street and asked If they enjoyed being bored most people will say no or of course not. It seems like a waste of time when you could be doing anything else. However, being bored isn’t a waste of time and shouldn’t be seen as a complete negative. There are benefits of being bored and it is very important to self growth.

Being bored actually has a very big impact and is helpful for self growth. You're probably thinking, "how is being bored helpful at all?" Well, it’s because of the benefits of sitting down and just doing nothing but thinking. When you do so it actually makes you “think more creatively than those who aren’t.” Being bored fuels your imagination and makes you a more creative person allowing you to express yourself in very different and amazing ways.

Teens don’t have to really deal with being bored anymore because they can rely on their devices to give their attention to and use all their time on. Using all that time isn’t really the best thing to do. As it is making our attention spans very short and we can't just sit down without doing something to distract ourselves. Another reason it’s not very good for you is that we are becoming less creative and consuming others ideas without ever thinking of our own.

However, If we are bored out of our mind then not only can we think of new ideas but we can also follow through with them too. Believe or not being bored makes us way more productive than you think. Scientists from Bar Ilan University found “that daydreaming also has a positive effect on task performance.'' Not only are you gonna be thinking of new ideas, you're also gonna feel motivated to pursue those goals and ideas. Also it can…. Are you not paying attention right now. It’s okay if you are not completely focused but maybe I can show you to deal with boredom.

Welp, you found yourself very bored and you have nothing to do or you just don't feel like wasting your time on any devices at the moment. It's okay; I can help you figure out what to do. Number one: ideas should just come to you naturally when your bored. So why not just entertain that idea as long as its legal and morally correct. Then while chasing this idea try to cut out all distractions. Boom. You are now not bored and are currently working on something productive. If you didn't have any ideas then just do homework. Make sure to cut those distractions still. Anyway why not just try and sit there for awhile and think. It could help you in the future.
