Student looking at the terrible things happening in Palestine

There has been an ongoing war between Israel and Palestinian militants, that began on October 7, 2023. Student's thoughts on the ongoing conflict in Palestine have been mainly one-sided, supporting Palestine.

The ongoing conflict in Palestine and Israel all started when an estimated 1,000 Hamas militants breached the security barrier at several positions. AP, Israel declares war, bombards Gaza, and battles to dislodge Hamas fighters after surprise attack, 8 October 2023. Gaza has seven official border crossings, of which only three are operational.

Students say that “ what was done was uncalled” and was “out of nowhere”. They also say that “even though Hamas started it they still stand with Palestine because Hamas and Palestine are two different things”. They say that “one is a terrorist group in Palestine and one is just regular civilians who are innocent”.

Hamas, an acronym of its official name, the Islamic Resistance Movement, is a Palestinian Sunni Islamist political and military organization governing the Gaza Strip of the Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamas

Hamas' military wings are deemed by the UK, EU, and US as terrorist organizations.

Students say that “Most of the Palestinians don’t even agree with what Hamas does”. Students also say “ They aren’t even killing Hamas, they are killing innocent Palestinians and it’s not right.

Currently, Israel is at war with Hamas, a conflict following a horrific rampage on October 7, 2023, in which militants from Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad, another extremist group, launched attacks that killed more than 1,400 Israelis and took more than 240 hostages://www.vox.com/2018/11/20/18080002/israel-palestine-conflict-history-overview-map Israel responded by launching a missile attack on the West Bank and conducting an aerial assault, killing and about 25,000 Palestinians and leaving injured about 62,000+.https://www.npr.org/2024/01/21/1225883522/palestinian-death-toll-soars-past-25-000-in-gaza-with-no-end-to-war-in-sight#:~:text=Since%20the%20war%20started%2C%2025%2C105,wounded%2C%20the%20Health%20Ministry%20said.

Students and people around the world are begging for a cease-fire to spare the innocent lives of women, men, and children, but it might be too late for that.

Students say that “ I don't think a cease-fire could happen because at the end of the day, the Israeli government is tied to the United States government, and that if the Palestinians get a cease-fire it wouldn’t work because we are too far deep into the war and damage has been done. Students say that “ even if they did get a cease-fire it wouldn't have a long-lasting effect”.

The United States may or may not support what is happening to Palestinians so even if they didn’t want to supply Israel and be involved they had to since the US and Israel are allies, but on the flip side the US has still given aid to Palestine as the Samantha power has said that the United States, through USAID, will provide more than $21 million in additional humanitarian assistance for the people of Gaza and the West Bank affected by the ongoing conflict.

Students say “Although this war is a terrible thing that's happening, that all they can do is pray for Palestine.”
