Absences Rate Throughout The City significantly increased

Students faced significant educational loss since the pandemic. According to Education Week, the rate of absences is rapidly increasing which is causing standardized test scores to be lower than before.
Throughout the school year, the absence rate fluctuates, but it has increased slightly ever since the 2020 COVID 19 Pandemic. These absences have caused students to have many assignments due with no expectation of completing them. With the absence rate being inconsistent it caused more students to fall behind in school
Research states that Students take more days off than what the district has given them, which causes them to miss out on important academic instruction.
The week of Christmas many students haven't showed up to school with assignments due, because of that students missed out on test prep assignments that would've improved their knowledge on the current topics their learning about.
Many students agree that transitioning back into their scholarly habit takes a long time because they have piled up assignments.
Tenth grader Isabella brown finds it difficult for her to transition back into school
¨ If i´m missing an assignment it sets me back because i´m not going to do it right away so then I have to Play catch up with not only that assignment but also the current ones that were assigned that day¨
Catching up with work can be helpful in many ways especially when using your resources and managing time wisely
Neveah Johnson thinks that asking her friends can help save time
¨Asking friends for those answers or doing the work on my own time helps when i´m behind, but some times I don't catch up because I have to finish work for my other classes which sets my back a little farther than everyone else.¨
The reason why students are absent from school can vary , some may not be controllable while others may.
Isabella Brown says when she needs a break she will take a step back from her work
" When I need a mental break, I would be sick or sometimes , or I don't have the strength to go to school"
Nasau Singleton adds, she takes a break when the work gets challenging, and gathers her self
"If I have too much work , if I have a test i'm not one hundred percent ready for, and if the weather is bad then I will stay home from school"
Many students may think school isn't effective or it won't help them in any sort of way .
According to Greater Good Magazine School is important because it not only helps students develop problem solving skills but it also helps student realize their potential after solving their problems. School also helps students develop stability into the real world and the work force by working on their self dependency skills. Knowledge is a big part of maneuvering around the world.
