Past : Are You Still Accountable?

The past is always watching, it constantly reminds us of who we are and how we’ve grown, if we’ve grown at all. Now we’ve all obviously made mistakes in our lives, so the question is, do they define who we are? If they are extremely bad and cross a line, are we still held responsible or accountable even if it happened almost 50 years ago. If we apologies or explain are our past actions or words then are we forgiven? Even if our actions are forgiven, are they ever forgotten?

Glenn Beck and Stu Burguiere discussed a 1972 essay about rape written by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), which resurfaced after the 77-year-old announced he's running for president again in 2020."That's crazy," said Glenn. "I don't know who thinks like that ... This is why progressives believe there is a rape culture, because people like this are saying 'we know what all guys are like.' No, Bernie, guys and women, they're not like this."

Presidential candidate Berne Sanders once wrote a piece for his highschool newspaper that discussed a woman fantasizing about being raped by three men 77 years ago. This drew my attenion for three reasons, the first being that rape is not something to be thrown around lightly or joked about it cause unspeakable tramas in its aftermath like : Rape trauma syndrome (RTS), Vaginal or anal bleeding or infection, Hypoactive sexual desire disorder, Vaginitis or vaginal inflammation, Dyspareunia – painful sexual intercourse, Vaginismus – a condition affecting a woman's ability to engage in any form of vaginal penetration, Chronic pelvic pain, Urinary tract infections, Pregnancy, and HIV/AIDS. The second being that he doesn’t really seem like the type to do such a thing. Third that after digging deeper finding out it was a satire piece.

Now The Sanders campaign quickly tried to distance itself — and the candidate — from the 43-year-old essay. Campaign spokesman Michael Briggs called the essay a "dumb attempt at dark satire in an alternative publication" in an interview with CNN, adding that it "in no way reflects his views or record on women." He added, "It was intended to attack gender stereotypes of the '70s, but it looks as stupid today as it was then." in fact Sanders has made many efforts to fight against rape and fight for rape victims. So does this make him a changed man that has our forgiveness or is he trapped in the same boat as The Canadian Prime Minister, who was exposed for wearing black face to a party in 2001?

Blackface is an offensive and racist practice that dates back to minstrel shows in the 1830s, which were used to mock African-Americans. Many politicians, most recently Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, have admitted to wearing blackface when they were younger. A new video emerged of a third instance of Trudeau in blackface – just hours after he had apologized for wearing what he described as “racist” makeup to a costume party in 2001.The latest images came in a short, undated video clip published by Global News in which, Trudeau – his face, arms and legs painted black – waves at the camera and sticks his tongue out. The opposition Conservative party – currently neck-and-neck with Trudeau’s Liberals – confirmed it had sent the video to Global News earlier in the week. Now there's a saying that says tigers can't change their stripes but we are people, not animals, so do we believe people can change and learn from their mistakes or do we hold it over their head for all of eternity?
