January 2, 2025Through a series of multiple trends on social media, fast fashion, and thrifting have influenced Carver students to start their own fashion brands.
Brandon Brown, Malachi Coeur, and Makai Bowman students at Carver have been influenced in these ways and created brands or have upcoming brands. Considering this, price is one of the main things to worry about in a brand. Rikki Crossland a high school student from the Muse stated It does not matter how much you spend on a piece of clothing as long as you intend to wear it. Malachi agrees.
“I believe in the fashion world and just putting on clothes. It doesn't matter necessarily where you get the clothes from, yes you could get them from the thrift but as long as you intend to rock what you got on it doesn't matter," Malachi said.
Considering that NPR (National Public Radio) states that Generation Z accounts for over 40% of consumers and has shown a strong preference for thrifting due to its vintage appeal and budget, this is a value to consider if your target audience is Generation Z.
“I mean it's all about knowing what people like and want,” Brandon stated. Part of it is also about a vibe and the aesthetic, and you have to tend to a specific aesthetic of people, You can’t always tend to everybody and that is something you must learn as you start your fashion brand.
As a fashion brand owner, you wouldn't want the brand to be like fast fashion with low quality clothes and no effort put into the clothes. You would like to offer something almost completely different.
“I think that my brand compared to others would be more original,” Makai said. I think most brands just copy norms, but mine would offer something a little more.
Though you wouldn't want your brand to be like Fash Fashion it still influences in ways that would still help you create the brand.
“Fash Fashion influences my brand by just giving me inspiration,” Malachi said. “Like Caprice, he is big in the fashion world and I look up to him and his accomplishments, and makes you want to strive and keep going.”
Thrifting is also a huge factor in fashion now. Most people who are into fashion get most of their clothes from thrifting and like the way “vintage” clothes look.

As you consider all this information for an upcoming brand, there are still things to consider for success.
“ I would say, definitely consider your target audience. Like, who are you making the clothes for?” Makai said. “You would have to know your audience and know what type of brand you want to create.”
To create a piece of clothing you’d have to start with a base such as fabric or even an old pair of jeans and build upon it as you go.
"You can always turn something into something else and you can make it more beautiful and it can allow you to appreciate it more". Makai stated.
