In the year 2024, student internet use is extremely common and often expected for school and entertainment. The social media use among Carver ENS students is daily. Some of the students at Carver post while others are just viewers. Excessive social media use has varying effects, both good and bad. 10th-grade ENS student Victoria Kurneh spoke about her relatively positive experience on social media platforms. “I believe social media has had a positive impact on my academic performance,” Said Victoria “I often turn to social media platforms to help me better understand concepts.”
Fellow 10th-grade student Tamia Jones has a similar answer about her experience on social media and how it affects her grades. “I think social media has had a more positive impact on my academic performance, it has helped me grow more motivated with my assignments.” The students were also asked about the content they consume, and if they have any educational content on their social media feeds. They seemed to have very mixed opinions about the educational content.
Victoria stated, “These posts often motivate me to do my work because they show real-life applications of problems in ways that are easy to understand.” But Tamia said, “They don’t do much to motivate me to do more work.”
