Recent plane crashes in the United States have been increasing, which has caused anxiety and fear for frequent flyers.
On January 29th, the nation was in shock as news headlines everywhere showed the tragic plane crash that took place in Washington Dc. A regional American Airlines plane was preparing to land at Ronald Reagan National airport when it suddenly crashed into a black hawk helicopter. Nobody survived the tragedy. For some frequent travelers this caused concern. However, others, like Mohammed Fadl, still have faith in U.S. air travel.
“I feel great about it, I feel safe even though tragedy is occurring with planes,” Mohammed, a 18 year old frequent traveler, said.
Just 2 days later on January 31st, another fatal crash occurred in Northeast Philadelphia when a medical jet crashed into Cottman Avenue. This jet was transporting a child who had just completed treatment for a life threatening condition along with her mother and four more people and unfortunately, there were no survivors. This one hit Mohammed a little differently.
“When they go over the safety protocols in the front it makes me feel safe ,but it did shake me up knowing how local this crash was to my community”, said Mohhamed.
Many people want to know the cause of these crashes but the scariest thing about these tragedies is that there is no set cause behind them.
“I feel like they're doing their jobs and They understand that it’s a bunch of lives in their hands so they care for the passengers”, said Tony Moreland, a Master Sergeant Flight Engineer.
It may seem that with all of these events headlining in the news that plane crashes are at an all time high, but that surprisingly is far from the truth.
“A huge role due to the fact that we live in a generation that has a lot of self-driving vehicles”, said Tony.
Since technology is evolving ,the aviation industry keeps up to date through safety practices.
“Technology makes the process efficient and thorough. The use of tablets, laptops, scanners, and other advanced devices enable the technicians to capture, interpret, and update the status and safety. Technology provides quick and accurate information to the Operations Division in authorizing the aircraft for flight.” said Tony.
Despite the tragedies, the frequent travelers mindset didn’t change their still gonna put their trust into the professionals.
“I feel the same, I’m just going to keep putting faith in god”, said Mohhamed.
These crashes may be scary to the public, but people must remember that all sources of transportation have accidents and aviation is ranked the safest method of transportation out of them all.
It is safe to say travelers are still staying positive and pilots are still working hard.
