November 26, 2025Students who have gone through school shootings or serious fights have often become strong voices for change. They use their experiences to push for stronger safety and supportive environments. Their perspectives help schools understand what needs to be fixed to protect students in the future.
However, not all students see the school as the main source of danger, more so the neighborhood around the school. Student Naairah Mason gives her opinion on the school's safety. “I feel like the safety of Carver is very organized. The only thing that I can say is about the neighborhood and where it is located is kind of a concern going home.”, Mason said.
Although the neighborhood surrounding the school can be a bit dangerous, there are plenty of other reasons on how we can make the school safer.
Student Malcolm Musgrove Jr., who experienced being in a fight and often was bullied around the school, gives his thoughts on how the school can be better. “I feel as though we should have more security guards in the school. Having 2 is okay but it isn’t enough” Musgrove said.
Even though some students and adults say what improvements we could make to change, others think we don’t need to change and that the school is safe enough. Athletic Director Scott Pitzner explains the differences in our school compared to the others. “Some schools have security guards who don't even care about what the kids do, we choose people who care about the safety of the kids and would do anything to protect them”, Pitzner said. “There is always room for improvement but in my opinion after looking at some other schools, I feel like ours is the safest.”
Student Sahin Rodriguez also gives his opinion on the safety of the school. “I think our school is fine where its at honestly, I feel safest while I am in school and that is thanks to our school’s security system”
Schools can always improve when it comes to the safety of the students but it is important to have a foundation or a starting point to build up from and be better as years and time goes on.
