Thrive Field Trip
We had an exciting and eventful morning visiting the dentist at Seef Dental Amwaj, where the children took part in an engaging and informative discussion all about dental health. As part of our PSHE learning, we have recently been exploring the importance of caring for our teeth, and the dentists were extremely impressed with the children’s knowledge and enthusiasm.
The learners confidently shared how many teeth we have, demonstrated the correct way to brush our teeth, and explained how many times a day we should brush to keep our teeth healthy and strong. It was wonderful to see the children applying their classroom learning in a real-life setting with such confidence and curiosity.
One of our English groups was introduced to the story that will inspire our upcoming play, The Enormous Turnip. We explored the characters and events in the story and began building excitement for bringing it to life. Alongside this, we continued developing our handwriting skills and worked on creative writing by using picture prompts to support the children in writing full sentences and sharing their own interpretations of the images.
Costumes needed
Our older learners are working on a script that they will present to parents. We would appreciate it if we could borrow the following:
Farmer - straw hat, large overalls, bandana,
Dog, cat, mouse - ears and tails
This week, our phonics focus has been on developing fluency and confidence in applying our Phase 2 phonics sounds. We have also begun blending and segmenting CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words. The children are making a great start, and with continued practice, their confidence and accuracy will continue to grow.
Our enquiring minds have been busy exploring the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Through this much-loved story, we discussed how “what we see, we learn” and explored the importance of observation. The children enjoyed sharing what they noticed, asking questions, and developing their speaking and listening skills through thoughtful discussions and activities inspired by the story.
This week in Guided Reading, the children have been developing their reading confidence, understanding of the story, and retelling skills through group discussions and activities. Guided Reading folders are sent home every Thursday and should be returned the following week so books can be exchanged. Inside the folder, you will also find a parent activity guide with simple ideas and questions to support reading at home. Thank you for your continued support!
(Group 1)
In one group, we used play-based activities and songs to build engagement and confidence with the topic of fractions, with a particular focus on halves and quarters. The children then applied their learning through practical and written activities, exploring how to make equal groups and identify equal parts to complete a whole.
(Group 2)
In another group, the children have been practising skip counting through fun hands-on games and maths activities to help build confidence and number fluency in an engaging way. The children have been working very hard and are enjoying the activities!
This week in Enquiry, learners have continued working hard on their Science Fair project, showing excellent creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills throughout. Learners recycled and reused materials to help build their projects, linking closely to our focus on sustainability.
They also created their own playdough by carefully following instructions and measuring ingredients before using it to help develop and shape their experiment models. Throughout the project, learners demonstrated strong analysing and metacognitive thinking skills by reflecting on their ideas, adapting designs and explaining their choices confidently.
We are very proud of the effort, resilience and enthusiasm learners have shown and look forward to seeing the final projects come together over the coming weeks.
